Default Interior HVAC Screen?

Hello everyone!

I haven't been on here in a while, but I sold my '03 for a '10 and then promptly gave it to my wife and bought an F150.

Long story short, since we've owned the '10 the A/C has sucked. It cools fine, but the airflow is very low on all settings. We tend to keep everything on MAX AC all the time as we like it cold, but setting 4 on this truck produces about the same amount as setting 1 on my 2003.

I pulled the blower motor out thinking there could be some serious debris in the heater box, but found that it was completely clean. No leaves, debris, or dirt to be had.

I did see this "screen" that appears to be coming from the interior side of the heater box. The PO was a serious smoker, and we had to pretty much soak the interior in soap for it to be clean enough to drive in. It almost appears like this screen is filled with tar/dirt.

Can anyone tell me what this part is called? I searched TASCA and couldn't find anything similar. I feel like this needs to be replaced but I have NO idea how to get to it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

If the screen looks bad I can only imagine how nasty the evap coil must be.

Here is a larger image (I had forgotten how to imbed). The screen looks bad, but the evap coil was clean. In fact, the small amount of dirt in the corner of the photo was the only dirt present. I for sure thought there'd be a lot in their but there wasn't anything.

I did a bunch of research, and found someone on another Ranger forum that had this issue and the dealership cleaned/replaced it. Unfortunately they never responded with what the part was called and how the dealer fixed it.

Just for closure for anyone down the road that has this issue. This screen WAS the problem. I took evap. cleaner and sprayed my evap. core and this screen and then blew out with compressed air. This was the result.

The problem is now gone and it blows 500% better (like it should). From what I can gather (without a HVAC schematic in front of me) this screen blocks leaves from entering the motor from all setting. I'd have to trace the vent tubes though to confirm. Either way, the previous owner was a heavy smoker and this was a buildup of tar that collected dirt, dust, etc. The goop that it became with the cleaner was pretty disgusting in the pan I put on the passenger floorboard.

If this is your problem, you really have to clean it from the blower side. Access from behind the glovebox is nearly impossible without a whole lot of disassembly. Luckily the blower is in with only 4 screws.

I am so glad both my F150s have a factory cabin air filter.

I bought a 2010 F150 last month (and gave this Ranger to my wife). It doesn't have a CAF either apparently as they got rid of it and didn't bring it back until 2015.

Luckily the PO wasn't a smoker.

I don't think any of these details are the problem. Let's start with the fact that this model is a complete garbage, guys. I've worked with them a few times, but I've found that many people have almost the same problem, so you're not the first to encounter a weak air flow. It all depends on the factory specifications and parts, so you and a few hundred other people are just out of luck. I was told about a possible problem back in the days when I was just taking training courses https://www.hvacschools411.com/. Now I'm convinced that you should just buy a new device

Great pointless comment.

I have logged in after almost two years of inactivity to tell you how stupid this comment was and a waste of my time.
