Default Using an old tire

I found a real nice condition 31x10.5R15 Pro Comp Mud Terrain at my local junkyard. I want to buy it and mount it in place of my spare tire.

The thing is that the date of manufacture is from 2009. I have heard to never use a tire that is over 5 years old. I see no damage or dry-rot on the tire.

Would you guys even bother with it since it's 10 years old?

As a spare I would. Any cracks when mounted I wouldn’t

If its cheap enough, you intend to use it only as a spare should be used (to limp home or to a tire shop), and it's not damaged... I would have no problem using it.

The main thing is to check the sidewall closely for cracks inside and out. If its mounted on a rim check for dust and debris inside when you take it off the rim. If there is any rubber dust inside, its trash.

If you think the tire will last 50-100 miles then get it.
