Default Cross Rotation Tires

I have never cross rotated tires on any of my vehicles be they FWD or RWD.

What is the point of cross rotation? What problem does it solve or prevent?

If one side is wearing worse than the other side then cross rotate them......then find out what is wrong with the alignment. If the alignment is dead on, then front to back.
Some tires are directional and require front to back rotations.
Every rotation I have had done at a Ford dealer is front to back.

I never cross rotate tires. I've seen too many tires with slipped belts so I do anything I can to avoid it. In my mind, reversing the rotation of a tire is asking for trouble, especially if you ever haul or tow large, heavy loads.

My father has always been a guru at getting the maximum life from his tires and all of his tricks just plain work, so I do what he's always done for the last 55 years. No point in doing anything any differently.

I never cross them anymore either. Too many have slipped belts and gone square right after changing the direction of rotation for it to be a coincidence.

Ya'll must be buying cheapo tires or something. 40 years of crossing, never had one issue. Must be a coincidence.

Before radials when all tires were bias ply, cross rotations were always done. When radials were on all cars and trucks front to back rotations were recommended by all tire manufacturers.
I really don't know what has changed.
I have always rotated front to back and tires always gave me no less than 60,000 miles of service.

"If one side is wearing worse than the other side then cross rotate them"

So this is the reason for cross rotation? Uneven tire wear? Otherwise no point to it? Makes sense to me. Honestly, I really don't understand why cross rotation is done as it makes little sense outside of making all things equal with uneven tire wear, even then why cross rotate? The damage is done, just get it fixed and rotate front to back as normal.

Todys Radial Tires may be better than older tires but it has always been suggest to ONLY do the front to back rotation.
As stated, Belt Movement can cause early belt tear through of the side walls.

Goodyear and BFGoodrich both recommend swapping sides with tires when rotating them, every 3000 to 6000 miles. I'll go with manufacturer's suggestions.
