Default Sell My 1994 Ranger?

I'm considering taking an auto mechanic class at the local community college. I also have a 1994 Ford Ranger with over 200,000 miles on it and it's got all kinds of problems. Pretty much everything on the truck needs to be fixed. I don't have the money to fix it now, so I think I'm gonna sell it. A couple years from now my retirement money could be used towards a used F-150. Is it worth keeping the Ranger and learn how to fix it little by little on my own? I only have basic home tools for general house repairs.

Thanks for your opinions,
Mike

Well by the sounds of it your truck isn't worth much if anything more than scrap unless you plan on being really shady to the person your selling it to. There's 3 things I do in these situations.

#1 part it out, just start taking it apart and selling every nut and bolt thats in goid shape and then scrap whats left. You'll gain some knowledge by taking it apart, if your good you'll probably end up with a bit more cash then selling it straight out. However it takes time, hard work, and skill both mechanical and as a salesman.

#2 donate it, charities won't give you any money but you will get way more than the trucks actual value in a tax deduction.

#3 keep it for backup or project, if it still runs you may use it as a backup or weekend beater or start turning it into a project.

If you do sell it, be a standup guy and make sure the person your selling it to knows what they're getting themselves into if it has tons of problems. You may find someone who wants it for their own project and doesn't care about any mechanical issues.

Some stranger left a note on the truck indicating an interest in buying it. I've had a number of notes left on my truck. This makes me wonder at the legitimacy of the offer.

You never know. Like I said, lots of people like rangers for projects like turning them into pre-runners or drag trucks. The guy who left the note might see your truck as the perfect gem to build his dream.

Exactly.. Just because you see it as a "roadside IED" doesn't mean someone else doesn't spot some value in its use.
