Default Anything close to Ranger reliability?

I am just seeing what some of you thought were some engines/models that are as reliable to the Ranger.

For reference, I have 2011 XL 2.3 Reg Cab 5-speed. Bought 3 years ago with 34k miles on it - have 130k currently. The engine just purrs and keeps going with minimal maintenance. I know this is an odd question, but I have recently just started to "see" what is out there. I know Toyota has a rep for reliability but mpg seems pathetic. Since I can admittedly say I do not know a TON about how engines work, and what makes an engine truly reliable, I just wanted to ask what you guys would consider good engines for the current lineup of trucks. Most truck owners might not care about MPG but I do, and I still use the truck plenty as a truck - 13ft skiff, kayak, mountainbiking, surfing, yard work, etc. I commute 80 miles per day for work 90% highway so I get some good MPG on this little guy. Everytime I start looking at new trucks I keep saying "my truck will never die, why bother" but I am urking for an automatic with cruise control nowadays since I am over manual tranny at boat ramps and in stop and go traffic.

I know many models have newer engines but, is there any evidence newer tech and engines could be potentially less reliable?

Thanks for any info guys, I honestly dont think Ill ever get rid of the Ranger even if I buy something new because... well, I can count on it.

The F150 stock V6 3.5 and 3.3 plus the ecoboost kick the Tacoma's ass in fuel economy whether it has the 4 or 6 cylinder.

Yes, that 3.3 engine has my attention. Not many on fuelly. Anything that leads you to believe they would be reliable? I know the 3.3 is a debored version of the previous na 3.5, which was a debored 3.7 from previous yes, duratec engines correct?

I've heard and read that with the new injection and such that trucks are getting less reliable due to more mechanisms etc. Again I know this is speculation- but I feel Ranger owners appreciate reliability and understand engine enough to make informed decisions.

Thanks for the replies so far

Thanks. I get that, but from my understanding deboring a previous engine doesn't seem like a new engine. Only difference that I understand aside from deboring it to 3.3l from 3.5l would be addition of port injection?

Just interested in understanding the new tech that shows concern for some of you folks. I test drove the 3.5l na engine and I liked the driving, but things like electric steering seem scary for me moving forward.

The 3.7 and 3.5 coyote engines are extremely reliable.....I do expect the 3.3 to be just as dependable.

It's a roll of the dice anymore. Toyota Tacoma's are reliable if you're shopping for a compact truck.
I would lean towards a F150 w/standard 3.5 (non-turbo) for your needs. If you what a turbo go with the 2.7..
