Aren’t they doing a mini truck based on the focus?

I have seen rumors of a Focus based mini-truck too.

Have they still not resolved the issues with that setup?

I have an appointment with my Ford dealer Saturday to put my order in. The way I configured it online, came to about 33k. XLT, 4x4, Super Cab 6' bed, tow package. That's about all I need. I can add skid plate and stuff on my own later cheaper than the packages from Ford. I also don't like the auto stop start feature - wondering if I can get a delete on that!
Also gonna depend on how much they'll give me for my loaded 2006 XLT Fx4.
I'll update after I talk to my dealer.

Update:
So my dealer quoted me a price $750.00 under the online price for a 4x4 XLT supercab, 6' bed, tow package. That's almost $4,000.00 less than what I paid for my 2006 which was 36k. Granted, my 2006 is loaded. However, he'd only give me $3500 for my 06. He said put it on Craigslist a month before your new one arrives and you'll easily get 7k or more. I knew they'd low ball the trade in, but I didn't think it would be that low. He said there will be rebates, but they don't have numbers yet, so the price would come down. $500.00 to lock in an order which goes toward purchase. It will have a shut off for the auto stop start.
I'm going to buy this truck but not sure I'll do the pre-order. I need my current Ranger until the new one comes. And I'd like to know what the rebates will be. Good chance this will be the last new vehicle I ever purchase in my lifetime. I've owned three Rangers, and they've been really, really good to me - off road and on - and this one looks like it is going to be the best yet. I just don't want a car payment that rivals my mortgage payment. Since when does a 7k down payment still equal a monthly payment over $400.00???!!!

Granted, it looks more like an enlarged Ranger than a condensed F-150, which was one pitfall they managed to avoid. But it loses its charm if I can't completely lose it in a parking lot and stuff. :/
It's debatable if regular cabs would sell or not but you will never see them made again thanks to our government. Basically the 2012 government regulation say that size/mpg combination will not be allowed anymore.

I have to disagree somewhat on the small truck. My industry is acceptably appreciative of smaller trucks. The "notion" that everything must be bigger because its better is a misnomer and a bad one at that. Sadly the lies surrounding that the market dictates whats made & sold is a sham. Even Toyota guys are screaming for a return in the Standard cab Taco's. Longer wheel bases are actually horrible for the offroad scene, at least in the rockier and desert terrain parts of the world. There's always an exception to the rule but the shorter wheel bases do very well if not better all the time than LWB.

What killed off the Ranger was Ford, because it was cutting into their F150 sales due to costs. Like you, I worked for Ford too but both early on as a wire tech for prototype electrical on the 98' Ranger/Explorer program in 95' and salesman with product specialist certs 2010-2013.. There was a lot of politics involved more than consumer interactions. Ford is notorious for the the push and pull method sales approaches and the Ranger was no less susceptible to the "take away" sale. The pulled it away like you would use oil to pull something out of wood. Just to capitalize on it even harder afterwards.

Problem is the lack of real men using trucks as trucks, they become the convertible minivan for families now.

True, but it can be shut off, even if its like the new JL Jeeps, an every time you start it manual shutoff button on the dash... IF Ford was conscious of the buyers not themselves as selfish as they are to assume there thoughts should be your own.

The Chicken Tax is also partially at fault for the lack of regular cab options. The Toyota Hilux and Mazda BT-50 have regular cab budget versions. With the Chicken Tax motivating manufacturers to produce locally in the USA only the models that have mass appeal get made. If there wasn't a 25% tariff on light trucks it would be reasonable to import low numbers of vehicles that are niche in the USA.
