Specs specs buddy... Give us more info.

Year mileage trim, etc.

Check:

balljoints (known to go bad quickly on rangers)

Shocks

Check condition of power steering fluid

Tranny drain and fill only if it looks old.

If they salt the roads in that area. (Dumbest idea ever, it just ruins cars) check critical area of the frame like suspension connection areas and sections that support the body.

Check brake pads and wheel bearings.

Check condition of antifreeze.

Suck the diff fluid using a hand punp and add fresh diff fluid the correct kind if it has limited slip.

Do a wax job to paint.

Engine wise do an oil change and new oil filter.

Install a new afe dry high flow air filter.

Install a sound system to listen to some runners.

----------

Check condition of the accessory belt.

REPLACE THE BELT TENSIONER BEARING REGARDLESS IF ITS GOOD OR NOT.

DONT DRIVE DISTRACTED.

sig line shows" "2003 Ranger XLT FX4 4.0 V6 187k+ Purchased: 7-20-18"

at that mileage, i'd be inclined to do allof the above, as well as change ALL the fluids. don't forget the brake & p/s fluid. are you auto or manual?

you might read up on which type of 4.0 you have. there's the OHV and the SOHC models, and i believe you have the SOHC in that year model. i think both engines are known for the timing chain tensioners... something to inform yourself on!

15 years old with 187,000 miles.........it has already lasted a long, long time! LOL
The SOHC 4.0L engine that is in your truck is known to have timing chain tensioner problems........but the majority of engines from that time frame never have problems.

I like to play Devils advocate from time to time... Dumbest idea or smart idea?

First you need to have a more clearer understanding of how real world commerce works in your city, county, and State along with all of the other private corporate entities in the mix.

You would do well to google and understand what base-line budgeting is and let the sno-ball role from there.

Sadly, this is where we find the shortcut doesnt do much effort for the standing of the case.. Missing important details by the use of an app (inferior it would seem) vs. using the browser.. both collect your metadata info and sell it off regardless. its why the App is FREE - You're the commodity, not the App my friend.

not bustin your balls, just making statements of fact lol

What reason justifies roting metal frames? If so if i was in those states i would never buy new.

In california i never had to deal with a rusted bolt....

Well the superficial answer is, Most people in Californai are bent on having the latest and newest material thing out.. NONSTOP. In the Midwest and East coast they need a little coaxing so they salt the shit out of the roads to melt snow, turn it into ice so accidents happen more often and JUST IN CASE you find yourself to be better than the average driver.. the salt doubles up to eat away at your car.. THEREBY creating commerce by cause of actions.

The sadder reality is even thats not too far off from the truth.

And also, the midwest and East coast, the far majority of Soft-tops, plastics, and rubber items like belts, hoses, tires, wiring, seems to last longer as well as paint so whereas frames and panels are generally rust free. California businesses up the cost on all of the other wearable items and you will find the vast majority of people just this side of the Mississippi river and over the other side to the East coast won't often pay California prices for anything unless forced to and even then.. even then they'll find a deal or get it used.

Kalifornistan is an Ass-backwards State. Only State I've ever lived in where everything is open 7 days a week, people work ridiculous hours, make more money per hour than 90% of the rest of the States and yet its got the highest amount of welfare recipients and broke as a Xmas eve beggar on Xmas eve society living in it. 36 million people plus, and 68% live pay check to paycheck and anything that would be considered a financial drop to one knee puts people on the next price is right of being homeless.

As my Home State, and putting my time in living there back in the day and within the last decade.. Even the weather is nothing to brag about. And no disrespect to you and yours but the people overall suck. If they aren't trying to figure out a way to stab ya for what you have, they're complaining about being hung with a brand new rope.

Wont even get into the politics or how business UNfriendly that state is.

Totally agree about california. We have the most ridiculous laws in california beginning with emissions and sticker OHVs and fuel cans have to be red "spill proof" or u risk getting a ticket.

Hey my 2018 yfz450rSE is fun as phhhukk but has red sticker OHV when a diesel turbo F350 haullzzz azzzz blowing black smoke all day. It is ridiculous over here that is for sure.....
