Default Subs and boxes

Hi guy and gals. I have an 05 FX4 extended cab and I want a sub in it like I've had in everything else I've owned but the kicker is (pun intended haha) my jump seats need to still be useable for the kids when we go out. I saw a really old post about removing the Jack and tools to mount a box there but the post died and never really finished so anyone else try something like That? Thanks

Something like that could be simplified to a rectangular shape and fabbed up in a day easily.

To fit the back of the truck you would need to have this funky back side

You could eliminate that weird angle and just make it a stepped offset instead.

If you are set on that design i would consider doing it with fiberglass.

I'm not set on any set design I just need to ensure that my jump seats are still usable after I'm done so the more I offset it the further out it will need to be to fit a sub and the less room in the back the passengers will have. That's why I was hoping to see what others have done before because this was the only thing I could find

Take the seats out and make 'em ride in the back! then you can build a box like this!

Yeah I don't need a big box and to shake the house 6 blocks from me. I just want a little extra boom than what I can get from regular speakers in doors is all

Maybe a preloaded box might be an option?

You could remove the jack and tools and just build a simple L shaped mount that could bolt to the mounting point on the rear wall and screw the enclosure to it?

Markos, I plan to remove the Jack and tools and mount it to that spot as I don't really see any other option but to do so I need to build a special box to fit the area and not impede into the passenger seating area

The lack of creativity is stellar.. First off, standard square or rectangular boxes inside of another square or rectangular boxes are a shit ton of standing waves and horrible for sound Q; realizing that the masses are more concerned with one note bass systems anyway.

Since the OP is looking to create what the other speakers are unable to reproduce, a single 6-8" sub would be all that is needed.

The pic above should be modded to either remove standing waves or minimize them more and if it were me id take it a step further to literally blend that box into the back wall as to compliment it and the interior overall or even go as far to create an amplifier rack in that spot that did as above and use the space between the back wall and the seats to make a center console that allowed use of a single 8" or pair of 6" subs in a down firing configuration or even a push pull design back firing towards the back wall.

Lit up cup holders for the kids, even a non slip tray for wireless cellphone charging, a pocket (or 2), accent floor lighting that works with the dome light or motion. Just looking at the space and having an idea of what the OP wants I already have like 4-5 ideas right off the cuff with system design as a whole. My imagination and limitation would only be held back by your pocket book....

And realizing someone [generalization] really just wants a short cut as usual and to cut and paste a box in the interior and call it a day, I'm mentally stuck with trying to create and build something no one else has or would think about to be different or be better.

Soon as I get the last two components for my router table, if you follow my build pg you'll soon see what I mean. Its a bit of work but the pride in it all goes oh so much farther than cut and paste.

@undrestim8ed. I like the ideas you are tossing out but am having a hard time picturing them. They sound like they are a bigger set up which renders the seats unusable but you make it also sound like they still are so I'm confused a little bit. Any chance you could mock up a sketch of an idea or 2 of yours to help me see the big picture? As I'm not a huge fan of the box I posted but it was the only thing I saw working to add a little bass to the sound. Thanks

Actually I could do that.. But only if in your appreciation if you like it, you post one of it printed hanging on your fridge and sorry NO colors...! lol

Yes the idea would to be more function for the seats and the little ones more so but it would be an almost seat to back wall console type setup that I think would be idea.

Is the pic both of used exactly like your setup now for the most part sans the enclosure?

I do need the distance from the back of the seat to the rear wall, between the two seats, and their seating height for mental reference if you could shoot me that in a post?

I will try to get some measurements for you when I get home. The back seats are pretty much up against the back wall and the back doors, I can get height under the back seats but I do know that the area where the Jack and tools are is 16" wide between the seats and the drawing of the box I posted has the height to the bottom of the back window. If I can figure out how to print your blueprints I will put them on the fridge on all their glory haha

Great, and yea the bottom of the seat from floor works and then maybe the seat thickness should be fine for all purposes. Where approx are you GEO-located in Kalifornistan?
