It’s not a damn Mazda design. People need to stop spreading that shit. It’s essentially the same engine in the 1970s Pintos.

The springs won't make a difference between years or 4x necessarily. Your best bet (if you're going for coils) is to find some used fabtech springs or camburg springs, but then you would have to get a different upper arm since the coils are longer. If you want to maintain all factory suspension, just get some 3" lift spindles. Hope this helps

It's a 4 cyl engine and you're wanting to put 31" tires on it. Next you'll be complaining about lack of power and wanting to know how to add power to turn them

-98+ 4wd Rangers do not have coil springs, they use torsion bars.
-AFAIK there is no difference between I4 and V6 coil springs.
-Lower control arms are a different shape and have different rear mounting points on the frame. The balljoint on the upper arm is lightly larger in the 4wd trucks.
-If I were you I'd look into lift spindles (Maxtrac, WheelsNParts).
