3.5 Turbo Swap???
Since searches came up with nothing, I thought I'd start one.
I've posted occasionally about my 255k 2006 4.0L SOHC that threw the drivers side cam chain.
So I was slumming through the ford parts site, and saw that a new 3.5L twin turbo motor is the same price as a 4.0L SOHC reman.
Has anyone put the 3.5L into a Ranger?
My '06 4x4 is clean, no rust, never off-roaded, just tons of high way miles by my old man before I got it. If it was a beater, I wouldn't bother, but since its clean and straight, I'm thinking a transplant that will run for years would be a strong option.
Initial thoughts:
1. New 3.5L TT costs about the same as a 4.0L SOHC reman.
2. Current auto trans would need to be replaced, prefereably with a manual. Looking at the 2018 builder on FOrd site, there is no MT option, even with a XL model. Curious about AT fitment in the ranger.
3. Transfer case fun (my 4wd system was dead when the motor went out).
4. Wiring harness/ECU/bzillion new fangled sensors to contend with. What about a race/crate wire loom to eliminate all that horse hockey?
Any thoughts on what it would take to load a 3.5L TT into the ranger?
Thanks. Oh, and yes I'm seriously considering it, but AC has to fit.
