Default Fuel Tank

I have a 96 Ranger... 3.0L extended cab, XLT... i have a hole or leak somehwere in my fuel tank that makes it impossible for me to fill it without gas spilling out. I have been trying to find a replacement one, but i cannot find one ANYWHERE. i have found them for other 96 Ford Trucks and other year Rangers... but none for a 96 ranger. Does anyone know where i can buy one???

Only the Standard cab has the 17 gal tank, ALL extra cabs have the 20.5 gal tanks...

You sure it's the tank? Not the filler tube.

Yes. When i pump gas, it is fine, until the very end. If I stop it before it's full, say like 2 gal shy if full, no gas spills out. But if I fill it all the way, alot of gas spills out.

It could be the filler tube but it should do that all the time, and not just after I stop pumping, but during too

Depending on where you are Geo-located. you may be forced into buying new if its not the filler neck. Some States have bureaucratic BS stipulations on the resale/purchase of used fuel tanks.

i.g. California; has its own "executive orders" on many things regarding fuel tanks if they may violate portions of US DOT regulation 49 CFR 393.67 . So MANY salvage yards pull tanks and cut tanks them in half, or burn holes in them if they get lazy making them useless or at least unreliable for repair and re-purposing. Cali is one state that becomes ridiculous in vehicle anti-tampering Statutory codes and laws. Weirdest shit ever, the State that makes perhaps the most comprehensive manufacturing list of aftermarket performance parts available - makes laws agaisnt the use and sale of them in within itself (o_O) ?!

Like many have suggested, even if it meant spending the $26 on it from fillerneck.com (? google it to be sure) for the piece of mind that do to possibilities or age of your vehicle/usage;

a) you know its not the filler neck at all
b) you know it will last you until you get trade it up/off or damaged beyond repair situation (accident)

At which time you have the least expensive possible fix vs being forced into replacing the tank/straps for $200 or so (guesstimate/NON verified cost factor) OR buying the tank first only to find out it was the filler neck after all rather than continuing to become further frustrated of having the fuel resource of a Std cab.. :\

Just a thought

As you can see it is dual pipe (mine is apart) I am only replacing the outer tube which vents air as you fill up. I saw it was cracked at the fuel cap end. The picture is of the tank end. Food for thought any way.
