Default Lost head gasket at 294K

Sad news today. The 2000 Ranger is sick.

Now I have to decide if I should replace motor, or head gasket or sell it off to someone who will want to work on it.

At least I have my 2014 F-150 to keep me on the road.

I feel for you. Four years ago my 05 blew a head gasket when I was sitting at a red light and the motor was toast, locked up tight. It only had 125K on it. I was pissed to say the least. I marched into the dealer with my meticulous maintenance paper work and sat down with the head honcho. They ended up paying for the labor and I bought the new engine. $3400 later...

You can get heads from alabama cylinder head and gaskets for about 500. I did mine a few years ago even with how old it was and having 240k on it, well worth it. Not a difficult job even for a first timer doing it, just make sure you label where everything came from and you'll be fine. It will take about a full day or two if you've never done them before.

My 2010 2.3 stick had a cracked head at 207 thousand miles 2 years ago. Oh did it hurt the wallet big time. Engine rebuilder shop and 1800 green ones later got it up and running. Its been problem free after repairs for 31 thousand miles.... My 2010 has 238 thousand miles on the clok and it wants more !!
