Default drivers door tag removal/transfering ?

ever tried to remove those stickers from the drivers door? it would be nice to have the right sticker, my "good" door that i plan to put on is from a V6 automatic truck, none of the information on its door tag would pertain to the truck im driving now, ive already started a "build sheet" notebook, since ive now got a 98 rear axle and i plan on changing the front knuckles/brakes to the ones off the 97. at the junkyard when i was sourcing a 4.10 axle i noticed some rangers had them on the door jamb rather than the door, i could always try that if i can get my original tag off, then i could just sand down or paint over the sticker on the replacement door.

Have removed a few hundred over the years at a body shop. Not always successful! Warning and safety tags under hoods, doors, trunks, radiator supports and pillars on different manufacturers are never the same as far as composite and glues. Some are made to self destruct. (The evil VOID)
With that said, I always approach by first wiping the tag and surrounding painted surface with a dry cloth and clean hands (fingers).I then try heating the tag and surrounding area with a heat gun (hair dryer will work) to warm up the surface. You do not want to over heat. You want to soften the glue, not dry it out or burn the tag. Nicely softened glue can act like a lubricant between the tag, the blade and the painted metal. Next, using a single bladed razor blade laying flat on the painted surface, sharp edge facing the tag, try sliding the blade under a corner and continue slowly until you are to the other end of the tag. (The single blade with the thicker hard edge laying flat on a surface gives the perfect angle) You may only get under 1/16 to 1/8Ē at a time. Some times a dull blade works a little better. Be patient. Continue with this process until you have enough tag lose to grab with clean fingers. Resist the erg to peel it back as it rarely works. Continue sliding the blade a few more hundred times holding whatís lose until the tag lets go.. Now be careful that the tag does not roll up on it self like a window blind. It will glue itself together. While holding the tag flat, I spray the back side with a little 3M tack glue and place the tag on the new part.
Taking tags off concave and rounder areas can be a real bitch. Take your time, be patient and practice on a few tags you donít care about till you get the knack. Good luck!

You would think there would be some sort of protocol or legal by-law to handle these situations, being it is certainly not illegal to fix your car or replace body parts.

Another case where a few bad apples that intend to steal have wrecked the ease of doing "stuff" for the honest people.

IMO you should be able to take your title to a title place, they come out to the vehicle and match it to the VIN, 5 days later you get a new sticker in the mail. Wish it were that easy.

I know the owner of a body shop and he told me his shop doesn't reuse these stickers, they order new ones from Ford for that VIN.
I only use fully synthetic blinker fluid.
