Default Fueling Problem

Hello All,

My truck (2001 XLT Super Cab 3.0 Flare Side 95K) has
suddenly started to give me trouble at the gas pump when
trying to fill it up.

Seems like the gas won't go in like it did even a week
ago. The pump keeps clicking off, I have to jockey the
handle to keep the flow to a minimum and I hear a lot of
Gurgiling. Almost like the filler neck has delaminated
on the inside and is obstructing the passage.

Anybody heard of this? There are no fumes or
leakage and eventually I can get gas in it.

TIA

I have the same problem! It started after I replaced my fuel pump. It's a frickin pain in the rear to fill up, before I could just put the pump on slow but now even that's too fast. Don't have a clue why though sorry.

Sounds like you have a clogged charcoal canister. You can clean it out, here’s a write up on how to do it

Thanks,

I bet your right. The "suddenness" of this problem makes
me think it's electrical. Ill test the Purge Valve first. Thanks
again, I would never have thought of that.

Funny how "You don't know what you don"t know."

Thanks again,

I'll follow up (as Usual) with my findings.

Last October I posted this:

Fueling Problem

Well last Tuesday 24-apr-2018 my check engine light came
on. AZ reads it as a P1451. As you can tell from my first post
I suspected it was something "Electrical" due to the suddenness
that the problem came on. "97rangerstepside" suggested the
EVAP system to me at that time. Also at that time it got COLD
here in the CLE and I didn't mess with it at all. Spent the Winter
of 17/18 "Drizzling" fuel into him at about 1 gal per minute
just to keep the pump from clicking off.

On the good side, it seems like an easy fix.

On the bad side, one has to wonder why it took the
Ranger ECU 6 months to throw a code. I noticed my mileage
went down the tubes, (I drive 300 mi a week for work) but
after the CEL came on I did 4 days on just less than 1/2 a tank.

Did the ECU just give up on it? AZ calls out Purge
Valve. Probably won't get to this for a while but will report
back whenever I do, I'm kind of a stickler for that. Endless
reports of problems, problems, problems never followed up
by Solutions, solutions, solutions...

Right now my "Take Away" from this is if your
3.0 mileage sux, check or just replace the Purge Valve. AZ
wants about $60 for it. I haven't checked AA or the Rock yet
but will.

Good Luck
