Default Ebrake cable and light

When I click my key into the accessory position or start the vehicle from cold, the ebrake light self checks (turns on and off) as it should. However if the ebrake is set, the light doesn't stay on. Randomly it will go on, but maybe 25 percent of the time, if that.

Could it be related to this picture that I took of the driver side rear where the cable goes in? If it's not related, does that cable need to be replaced or is that just an outer sheath that is cracked?

Its just the outer sheath that's cracked. There is a tightly bradded cable inside that actually works the brake.

Should I put electrical tape over that to protect it from salt?

the brake light issue is caused by the parking brake switch. Try wd40 on it, if that does nothing replace it.

I would put tape on the cable for now but plan on replacing it. The ebrake cables can cause havoc with your regular braking system.
