Straight pipe ??
I have an 87 2.3, and if any of you guys have this model you know just how quiet this thing runs. A little too quiet for my taste. I was wondering on the pros/cons on a straight pipe after the cat (still want it to pass smog) . It'd just be testing waters, since it is a 2.3 i don't want it sounding like a civic, and if it did I'd throw the muffler back on asap. Still want to know of any straight up pros and cons of doing this , Any input is appreciated

Re: Straight pipe ??
Leave the muffler on if you don't like the sound of rice. If you put a bullet type "glasspack" on, it'll sound like like an old "A" model Farmall tractor, when idling. I've had the tractor, and my cousin had the "glasspack".
The straight pipe will be quite obnoxious, but some people like obnoxious, just see how many ricers are out there sounding like crap.

Straight pipe ??
I've heard about the glass pack a lot and have been wanted to know more about it , I think that's definitely what I'll go with, I don't want the loud rice at all. I'll just do more research on glass pack , cost , instillation, and what kind, etc. so if someone can lead me the right direction it'd be appreciated. I definitely want the louder old tractor idling sound

Re: Straight pipe ??
I had a glass pack on mine for a little, it sounded terribly ricey. I did keep the cats though because of emissions laws. Im sure that played a part in the sound but still. I put a supper 44 on and it sounds much better. It's a 4.0 btw.

Re: Straight pipe ??
There is no exhaust system that will make a 4 banger sound good.

I have a Flow master 40 series with dual exhaust out the back with chrome tips.
Smooth sound and looks good too. My is a 2011 XLT 5 speed.

Re: Straight pipe ??
Whilst not a 4 cylinder, i'm still in the process of going to my local garage and asking them to replace the final muffler with straight pipe, there are 5 cats of varying types before this, and, like your describe the 4 cyl, it's just too quiet for me whilst driving.

I've got a Thrush welded, SI/DO on my 3.0, doesn't sound bad at all.

Did you just replace the final muffler and get pipes exiting both sides of the bed?

Yes, I had them custom made. Take a look in my album, there's a couple photos there IIRC.
