Default Swapping my 4.0 to a 3.0 what will be needed?

Ok so let me begin with explaining why I would have to do this wierd swap because No one would go down in power lol. Well I totalled my 94 3.0 and bought a 94 4.0 but it has a little noise in the motor. I want to know what I will need just in case before I haul my other ranger off for scrap. I'm assuming I will need my wiring harness out 9f my 3.0 because it's distributer and my 4.0 is coil pack but what else would i need any help would have been appreciated?

You will need engine, trans, COMPLETE engine harness, COMPLETE dash harness (likely), ECU, COMPLETE body harness and up to the Door jam boots if NOT power doors, if power doors in one and not the other you may need the door wiring/regulators etc too). The fuse box and 3 hull plugs should be a part of the dash harness in both vehicles if I recall. Oh, and random parts if one was an auto vs manual ect.. Wait until your done and running before dragging off or parting out the old carcass.

My question is, what kind of noise is in the 4.0L because unless you've got a main bearing spun; which even that is repairable these days. It should be relatively easy fix in comparison to getting into both a downgrade engine and an entire swap of dis-similar parts and thats coming from someone doing a 2WD to 4WD Body Swap with the added intent of dropping a 4BTa Cummins in..

How hard is it to put headgaskets on a 4.0 just checked the oil again today and it's full of water when I bought it the oil was clean I guess when I over heated it it blew a head gasket

A lot less hard than transplanting a 3.0 into a 4.0. My guess would be less expensive also.

HOWEVER depending on how long the water has been in the system your main and rod bearings could be shot. You can't tell from the top.

I just bought the truck a few days ago and the oil was fine so idk I may try to find another 4.0. But it also has another problem after a quarter throttle it tries to govern out or acts like it's not getting fuel and it didn't do this before

If there is water in the oil you better stop driving it.... now.

Chances are the head gasket was already blown by the PO and you just made it worse LOL.

If you want to proceed with this swap it would be a good idea to wait till you are done to get rid of the original wrecked truck, you could be nickle and dimed to death in small parts.

In my travels I have found 4.0's easier to get than 3.0's. This means you put your 3.0 on craigslist or better yet yank the 3.0 motor and sell it as a good running motor out of a wrecked truck and get a 4.0 of the same year that will bolt right in unquestionably.

Just my opinion

I haven't been riding it I may just sell the 3.0 and buy a 4.0 but I really don't have time to do a swap. Guess I'll have to make time lol
