Default No Crank No Start No Fun

I have a 2002 XLT 4x4 automatic that has been giving me a no crank issue for a couple weeks now. One day it worked fine the next it just stopped working. I've had the battery tested and it's good, full charge. I've taken the starter off and bench tested it and it cranks fine. It seems it's a PATS issue. The theft light flashes fast when I turn the key all the way. All my lights work. Not sure what exactly is wrong. I have two original keys and two aftermarket keys that I programmed. None of which work anymore.

I was going to post a video of it but I can't figure out how.

Check all the fuses to make sure they are tight in the box...

I thought the PATS system disables the fuel pump.

Toms right, if it is not cranking it isn't pats. You have an ignition switch or some attached circuit. If you are electrically inclined buy a EVTM for that year and see what is in line with the ignition switch for the crank position.

I thought some years of PATS did disable the starting circuit? Also the fast flash of Anti-theft indicates that PATS is disgruntled about something.

My 2002 Ranger would disable the starter if I tried to use my spare key without the chip.

I looked through my Alldata subscription for the pin point test for no start no crank and let me tell you the test listed in the flow chart is flat out extensive.

You should be able to pull codes from the computer.

I might be able to provide more information but we need to start with the codes first.

It would be best if you signed up for alldata because I cannot copy or post diagrams from alldata so any information I could provide would not be complete.

OK sorry for the misinformation then. Separate thread probably but what year did they stop doing just the fuel pump and/or injectors and head for the starter also? Seems like that would have been the best place to do it from the start (no pun intended).

Like literally all the fuses or just the ones related to starter and pats?

Is EVTM the same as the ford service manuals and electrical diagrams manual? Cuz I have those.

I am not familiar with all data. Is that something you pay for? Also what exactly is it? Just a reference for info and manuals? The codes you speak of, when you say pull them, do I need a special tool for this?

I may be wrong but pats may not interfere with the starter unless you have the factory alarm. ( which my Ranger had )

I am not knowledgeable enough to know what Ranger came with what option and when the factory changed these options.

I go by what information I find in the service manual for the vehicle I am working on.

I could dig into this subject deeper yet I does not seem it would help the OP at the moment.

Alldatadiy is a paid subscription to basically a online factory service manual you can get a one year or five year subscription.

http://alldatadiy.com/?affiliate_id=..._id=2070338155

The list of codes I sent a picture of came from alldatadiy.com
It also includes TSB and recall data

Mitchell1 diy is a similar source for data yet i do not have experience with mitchell yet I hear it is pretty good.

I suggest if you get a subscription get Alldata because I can help you navigate through the information found there until your comfortable with it, with mitchel you would be on your own.

If I am not mistaken you can get the B codes with a quality code reader.

In the older vehicles you could watch the light on the dash and count the flashes.

Before you get to crazy buying subscriptions if you have a code scanner try and scan the truck for codes and see if it pulls up any codes and we can go from there.

I am willing to bet whatever code you find someone somewhere may have posted more information about the code.

I will also look up in my Alldata subscription and post what I can for you.

I read this online on another forum I doubt it will work but if you do not have a code reader it is worth a try.

Turn the key till the gauge/warning lights come on. The anti-theft light will flash really quickly, as I'm sure you've already scene. Keep the key this way for about almost a minute. You should see the anti-theft light noticabley slow down. Once slowed down, turn the ignition off. Count 40 seconds off, turn the ignition gauge lights back on. You should see the anti-theft (either slowly flashing) or turn off quickly. Now, you've synced your key, she's ready to start.

If this does not help which I doubt it will let us know when you pull the codes and if you get any.

So I need a fancier code reader than this one I assume. Ignore the code. It's old and on my work vehicle. And it didn't read any codes. That was the first thing I checked.

When you have been trying to start your truck, have you made sure no other pats keys are on the same key ring or any other electronic device like a gas station quick pass key?

If so try only using one pass key at a time but only use the OEM keys not the aftermarket ones.

Also keep any of your other Pats keys far away from the truck when your trying each key.

As far as a scan tool some Snap on scanners will work on some years Fords but not the really new ones.

I have come up empty handed looking for one that would work on the 2002 for sure.

If the key suggestion does not help you may be stuck seaking help from the Dealer.

I have tried with only original and no other keys and still nothing. I should say that like another member on here when at full turn of the key when it should be cranking all the lights go off on the dash and the blower shuts off. When I release it they come on along with radio. Not sure if that is valuable info or not.

I signed up for alldata but I think I still need a code reader that gives more info. I assume it's the ones that give live data?

Is this a legit place to find one that works?

Does it sound like the innova 3130 should work.
