So I would not take your truck apart just yet.

I would set up my meter with extra long leads and test for resistance on the circuit indicated in test 5 while doing a wiggle test on each and every connector and harness section I could get to that is part of the suspect circuit.

In the wiring diagram for the PATS you should find all the connector numbers which can be looked up for their location and connector diagram information.

It shows nothing when pcm disconnected. 0.L. Does that mean pcm is bad?

I would say if the values change drastically with a new PCM then I would say for sure yes at minimum you would need a PCM.

But disconnecting the PCM during this test is not part of the diagnostic process and should not be considered as evidence of a bad PCM.

Other circuits may be in play that add to the resistance of the circuit, if that makes sense.

What I mean by this, if you purchase a PCM out of a justifiable fit of diagnostic rebellion and find that the resistance on the circuit in question goes back to normal range I would not connect the battery until you exhausted all checks to insure nothing could have caused the PCM to go bad.

So what would the next step be in trouble shooting this. The test that failed says to repair the circuit. That's pretty vague.

Since you have a way of programming the keys, I would start by doing the wiggle test with your meter connected in test 5 if the resistance does not change during the wiggle test I would try and program the Ford keys and see what happens.

One thing I did was look through Alldata to see if there are any other Pin Point test you could run and i found one that specifically covers vehicle does not start.

If you look at the pictures you will see the flow chart of where I found these test.

Vehicles, Accessories and optional equipment,Anti theft Alarm systems, Testing and inspecting, PinPoint test

Not yet. I have not had time to do the latest suggestions by eaoutlaw. I will post them as soon as I can though.

Dang. Let us know what they find out. Iím still struggling with mine. I tried the wiggle test and found no change in the ohm resistance. Iím at my wits end. I may try reprogramming my keys but I feel like that wonít work since there is some wiring issue.

The thing that makes me nuts is the truck run find the day before, than parked it for the night. Next day went to start it and nothing. The key/lock light never ever flashed on the cluster before but that morning it was flashing like crazy. After about a minute it started flashing code 16 (no link) with the PCM. My repair shop tech, a pass Ford tech of 15 years said after he put his computer on the truck said PCM shorted. New PCM on order and should be here today. I’m a retired old school mechanic, BC (before computers) and this stuff drives me crazy!!

Same for me. I just used it to haul some stuff the day prior. Next day it didnít work. How much is the new pcm going to cost. Iím thinking I might have to replace mine.

Donít know what they will charge me but I looked online and they run from $280 to $500. Ouch! My truck has a little history. I have a friend who works for Consumers Reports Magazine. They test vehicles here in Colchester Ct for the magazine. After testing they get employees first crack at buying the test vehicles, than to their family or friends. I have bought 3 vehicles from them over the last 11 years at a great price. 2006 Solstice, 2009 Ranger and a 2014 X3 BMW. My Ranger now has only 26,000 miles on it so why did the PCM fail so soon?

Yeah. Iím hoping to get mine fixed without going to a dealer. We have a nearly 1 year old and it turns out kids are not cheap. Plus I like working on stuff and figuring things out. I just do t have much time anymore with this being our first kid. Iím lucky that I have a work vehicle that I drive everyday for work otherwise I couldnít go this long without my truck. Let us know what ends up happening when they get the pcm in. Iím curious if it fixes he issues or not. And the total cost for the dealer to do it.

Thatís really cool that you have connections with someone at consumer reports. Itís really strange it went bad so soon but who knows why. Strange things happen.

Was told the drivers in the PCM were blown. They installed a new PCM and flashed reprogram it and reprogram 2 keys. $499.99 for the PCM, $250.00 for labor and $49.00 for next day shipping & handling, along with Connecticut Tax. Total $865.00. Ouch but I’m on the road again. No way I could of done the repair without the Ford computer.
