Default Bed underside photos

As title says, would prefer flareside photos, but fleetside would help as well. Don't care what color, year, or condition. Yes, I can still climb underneath, but can't really see the whole thing at once.
I'm working up a plan to replace the floor, and a couple crossmembers.
If anyone would be willing to work with me on measurments, I'd owe you a big one!!

What exactly do you want pics of under there? FWIW, any pics will be taken from floor level, no handy lift access here.

I think what I need Bill, are photos of the box off the truck, say standing on end, along with measurements of the crossmembers, and the flange for the wheelwells. That's the tub itself and how wide the flat part of the floor is. The tub and flange is all one stamping.

I might mention, mine is a step/flare side.

My thoughts are to use pressure treated plywood to replace the corrugated section of the floor. I would need to overlap that flange area, and bolt the plywood to it. I'd likely put the plywood on top of the flange, rather than under, and use unistrut for my new crossmembers.
Regardless if I bolted the wood on top, or underneath, it would have to be isolated from the metal, the wood preservative is very corrosive, and stainless hardware would be needed.
I'm thinking bolting the wood over the flange, would prevent me from lifting the entire box 3/4" higher than stock. In other words, it would look like a 3/4" body lift on the box, pretty goofy, I'd think.

As it is, I had a box liner installed the other day because the floor is so bad. I'd likely reuse that once everything else is said and done.

Just trying to come up with a workable plan, that wouldn't look too redneck.

Pics of bed without the fenders. Recently removed my bed. Used rust barrier on areas with mainly surface rust then painted the bottom with some Rustolem I already had. Bottom of bed now matches the patio furniture. The heat shield above the muffler I used engine paint. Then painted everything else.

I would suggest you cut out the areas not supported by cross members. Then use the cross members for the wood floor. Only problem may be closing the tail gate.

Good luck

Thank you Jeff, that helps a lot!!
It looks like that front crossmember is a little deeper than the other two. At any rate, that one is gone on mine.
I hope this doesn't happen, but if I can't break the 6 bed bolts loose, I just may take my angle grinder and cut along the seam between the flat metal on the fender wells and the corrugated, and just lift what's left off the truck.
Do you hae an idea of a ballpark figure how much the complete bed might weight? Seems I saw around #200 somewhere. It would likely be easier and quicker with a helping hand, but I could use my tractorloader to pick it up.
Man, I wish mine looked half as good as yours!

Front crossmember is deeper.

The bolts use clips attached to the frame. Something like the clips on the plastic fender wells only a lot bigger. Cutting through the clips from underneath should not be a problem except for the front drivers side. That one is close to the gas tank.

Use a lot of wd40 or whatever. Look at the end of you torx socket, if it is rounded then grind it flat. Flat torx grips a lot better.

Total weight on bed is probably less than 200. Two guys can lift it off easy.

Hey John! For what it's worth, I wouldn't cut the unuts underneath. The bolts are only held in place in the unuts about 3/8-1/2 worth of threads. Yes, you can snap the bolts. I had no problem removing them on my truck, but then mine was mostly garage kept. If you snap off any bolts, let me know the size of the bolts as your truck is newer than mine. Also, I'll be gone until Sunday, but if you need a hand and your back down state, maybe I can help you with the bed? Take care.

Some great info I'm getting! Thanks guys.
I'm gonna climb underneath it again and shoot those bolts with some PB the next couple days, and maybe get going on this sooner than I planned, it isn't going to get better as time goes on.

Thanks for the offer Andy, I'm afraid I'm going to have to do it up here. All my tools are here, plus the room I don't have down there, and no one to be yelling at me about a mess.

Spent some quality time under the Ranger today, and found more things that need attention. Seems my rear fuel tank mount is no longer there, the band is, but the bracket is gone, cool.
Hope to get the bed off sometime this week, can't wait to see what else I might find.
The shackles and mounts look good, and the frame as well, got that much to be happy about.
I've had zero problems with my fuel pump, but is there anything I should look at since I'll have the bed off anyway?

Going to hunt for a tank support strap, and bracket, and may as well replace the front one while I'm there. The brackets appear to be riveted on, I'm just going to cut them out if possible.

Since you will have bed off it is a good time to hit frame with some rust treatment.

Oh, yes it is! Need to fab up something for the tank strap mount as well. The whole key to this is to minimize the redneck look.
May as well remove the fenders and do a #1 job on the bed sides too.

I may have a line on a fleetside bed, rhino coated, and am trying to get some photos of the underside.
Has anyone adapted a floor from a fleetside to a flareside? How much of a hassle is it?

the beds are interchangable , you need the fuel fill tube from the flareside to ause a flareside bed ,you also need the rear bumper from a flare side . going from a flare side to a fleetside you need the fleet side fuel fill tube and rear bumper

Thanks, but I'm just going to cut out the floor, and try to adapt it to my stepside. The fenders appear to be pretty banged up on the donor, plus I'd want to keep my steppie.

OK, got my bracket for the gas tank strap to mount to, the guy that names parts for Ford calls it a gusset. OK, doesn't look like any gusset I've ever seen, and the parts guy said the same. $70, but hat ya gonna do, pretend to be Bubba, and redneck it? Uh, NO!
Photos of my bed as well from the topside.
Forgot to mention, the tag that was on the box, said, "Vintage Parts".LOL
