Default Anyone know when you're supposed to replace your coil?

Per the title; i'm replacing my wires and plugs (plugs are shot to hell) and it made me wonder when the replacement coil was recommended, any ideas?

I do it literally.... when they fail. I've seen cars of all breeds with 250,000 miles same coils they were born with.

Kind of what i figured, though i can say people do that with spark plugs too, i mean, the ones i pulled last night, ~.0100 thou gaps and concave surfaces, with one back having the 'needle' point worn clean down to the dome it previously sat upon Still running smoothly, though no idea on performance and efficiency (just got it)

I JUST replaced my coilpack two weeks ago. I asked a similar question on how long they last. Most answers were "they last until it dies..".lol

My truck is 2001 with 180k on it. I am almost positive the coil pack is original to the truck. I replaced it because I changed spark plugs and wires and figured why not. It was $48 on amazon for an OEM motorcraft one so it was cheap to me. I noticed zero difference from the old/original to the new one.

In my opinion it's probably not needed to change the coilpack. Plugs are super cheap so you can get oem motorcraft/autolites for nothing really. Wires again those are cheap for OEM.

I look at if I have to spend $55 every 60-80k miles for plugs/wires then that's really not a big deal for maintenance items. Coil pack you probably will only buy once if it's dead but if it gives you peace of mind, again it's cheap.

Yeah, i'm figuring the one i have is probably fine, i don't think they wear like wires and plugs.

Like a lot of electronics, they work perfect till they decide to stop completely. Usually don't give any notice. I wouldn't worry about it, just drive it.

Plugs and wires, yea they need changed as they would be considered a wear item.

I replaced mine on my 98 with only 83k miles on it. BUT I had to re gasket the intake plenums and had to remove it, and i figured, if I was removing it anyways, I might as well replace it. Otherwise, I wouldn't have.

I'm doing the same with my 2003.5 mazdaspeed protege I am working on. putting new shocks in? well going to replace the strut mount, brakes, and sway bar bushings too. Do they need to be replaced? no, but I'm already in there doing the work, and then I know I'm good for the next 50-60k miles. Hell, wheels are off? might as well do the brakes while I'm at it. Its only a few more minutes of work in the end, and the work is 50% done. almost might do the wheel bearings too, but they're probably fine for another while yet.

I replace my coil packs when I do plugs and wires. only reason I do that is when I ordered plugs and wires on rock auto they said they recommend putting a new coil pack on same time do plugs because a faulty coil pack can ruin new plugs and its only 30 bucks for mine so I just do it

I'm not sure i believe a place only interested in selling items - in the same way i wouldn't agree with plugs getting ruined by a faulty coil pack, that seems very unlikely.

It doesn't make sense from a technical viewpoint is what i'm saying. Obviously nothing wrong with replacing it, but not for those reasons.
