Thought this might help someone.

My passenger side rear door bottom latch was not catching. Managed to strip one of the Torx bolts with one turn of the Torx wrench when trying to adjust the striker.

I simply cut a piece of 3/8 in. OD 1/4 in. ID clear vinyl hose and covered the outside edge of the striker with it. Bottom latch does not catch, but the door holds tight. No more "door ajar" light and beep when driving over bumps or taking turns. Good luck with this annoying issue.

I'm sure the intent of the thread was to help but it should be pointed out to anyone reading it that....be aware that with only one of the two latches anchoring the rear door to the body, and with the drivers seat belt being a part of the rear door as well as the front door being latched to the rear door (striker for front door is on the rear door), that the possibility of doors coming open in an accident and the driver being ejected just went up.

Zach as stated above that is dangerous, I would remove the rear door panel & remove the lower latch & either lube it so it works, or replace the latch.

Agreed on the safety issue. But, this is the passenger side rear door and I can not recall the last time I had a passenger in my truck (with two kids in car seats, this truck has become a commuter, errand, and fishing vehicle for me).

It seems like the vast majority of people's fix for this issue is"dealing with it". So, for anyone looking for a fix, this not it! Adjust your striker, or fix what is needed!

I'll fix this after my other classic ranger issue is fixed: the timing chain/cassette issue!

Thanks guys for pointing this out. Don't skimp on safety issues.

Both bottom and top latches click twice during their closing. If the bottom latch didn't click at all it isn't the striker. Having been in to both top and bottom very recently there is not enough adjustment in either striker to keep the door from making at least the first click. So if it isn't clicking at all on the bottom you need to look at the lower latch mechanism inside the tiny door.
