fuel filler neck
I tryed this in elect.tech,no one replyed.
Have code PO457,loose gas cap symbol on dash.I have a 2 month old gas cap,
WTF ? Anyway i took cap off,There used to be a smaller hole for the gas nozzle, and there was a flat stainless steel looking thing that was a bigger hole if not there. Now its the bigger hole as if the steel thing fell down the pipe, filler hose.It all still works but I know that steel thing is in the pipe.
I disconnected the battery, symbol probably will come back.
Looks like a new filler neck is in the future,I just hope the bed doesn't need to be raised!!

sorry no pics

Re: fuel filler neck
This site has been acting up.
On your old thread I replied, yet each time I tried to click on the thread it kept coming up
"About Blank"
Once I was finally able to post a reply I did a search for today's post and it showed your post with no replies.
Anyways the code you have is for a obvious leak in the EVAP system, I doubt it is the gas cap again unless you purchased a really cheap one.
I am sure you checked the sealing ring for dirt or debris if not do so.
Please post a picture of your filler neck so we can see what you noticed.
From your description it more than likely needs to be replaced.
I am not sure what needs to be removed to replace it, yet on other trucks I have done the same job on it wasn't too bad.
If you have a obvious problem with the filler neck, I would replace it then clear the code and see if the code comes back.
If it does we can try and help from there.

Re: fuel filler neck
Patrick, I replaced the filler neck right after I purchased my 2000 Ranger almost 4 years ago due to leaking fuel. I replaced the filler neck & both hoses from the neck to the tank. I used an engine hoist & lifted the bed off the truck, which to me was easier then laying under the truck, or dropping the tank. Here is a link to the company I purchased my replacement filler neck from with the info for your Ranger.

Thanks Mike, I've been trying to figure a way to remove my bed by myself. Crap, I've got a loader on my tractor, even better than an engine hoist!!!!!!

You are welcome John. What I did was use some heavy duty rope & run it in a diagonal pattern through the 4 hooks inside the bed to create an X then just put the hook on the hoist chain at the center of the X. I had my wife help me, once I got the bed high enough I had her drive the truck out from under the bed, set up a couple saw horses & set the bed on the saw horses.

I've came across examples with pics where people have removed the bolts on the left side, loosened the ones on the right, and lifted and supported the left side of the bed to get things done. Sounds more one-man friendly than cooking up a plan to completely remove the bed.

Gotcha!! Guess I was overthinking. That'll be a piece of cake.
