Default another camshaft synchro problem

2003 3.0, threw codes for misfire on cylinder 6, misfire at startup, well I took the easy way out on the replacement and just marked where the tab and all that was on the block. the engine runs ok but seems to stumble alil and I'm still getting the chirp intermittently. It is throwing the code p0174 and I am stumped,I used a duralast synchronizer shaft because autozone and napa did not carry the motorcraft or A1 cardone part. as far as I can see there are no leaks (tested with carb cleaner). One of the reasons I did not do the TDC method is I do not have a socket big enough to fit.

this is my only vehicle so I need to figure this out

Things I replaced to make codes go away:
plugs
wires
synchro sensor & shaft

I live in Zwolle,La so things are somewhat limited

Did you disconnect the battery while changing parts, or manually clear the codes after installing the new sensor?

I suggest clearing the codes (as the synchro shaft may have fixed it but the codes will stay) and buying a motorcraft part instead of the duralast one (Amazon can get it to you in 2 days for a little over $100) as that one may only last a year.

I disconnected the pos and neg during the replacement job. Since the Duralast part is squeaking out of the box do you think autozone will honor there 1 yr warranty if I order the motorcraft part and get it in a week

I am unsure if doing that actually clears codes as I have a true code reader, but if it does the light should be off for a while after starting the trick until it starts having issues.

And AutoZone has always honored warranties and returns for me (my friends always have bad luck so I do it for them no issue) so just be confident in what you say and you should have no issues. Also, the shop you bought the part from has to stand by their part while other shops are allowed to turn you down.

Problem solved: another post on here said 0 degrees on the crankshaft harmonic balancer was on the 6th tooth so I stuck a straw in cylinder 1 and turned to tooth 6 and it seemed to be correct. Turns out my 0* was on tooth 5. Truck ran perfect 1 tooth off but injector timing was off or something. Causing. It to throw code p0174. My advice to anyone else doing a camshaft synchronizer Install is sand the harmonic balancer so you can see the 0 degree mark, put straw in cylinder 1 before turning crank or alternator sometimes will turn crank to confirm. Make sure you use the lil synchronizer alignment tool to hold in tab in the middle of inner slot and re-install. Will save lots of hassle. Those of you that did it w/o the top dead center method, you're lucky.

Just curious, when you found 0* on your harmonic Balance, what did you point it to? The crankshaft sensor or was there a pointer indicator? How did you determine you were on the compression stroke?

align 0* with the crankshaft position sensor either by turning the alternator towards airbox, or crank, with truck in neutral, if the straw is pushed out 1in+ that will confirm with the 0* mark you are at the top of the compression stroke.

Changed mine a few thousand miles ago. Thats how I ended up doing it. I used a cam to look into the cylinder though. Looks like I did it right then. Thanks.
