Understand, the white 01 pic I posted above if you look closely you can see that I used one of those frame repair panels on the right side as the shackle mount was totally gone and that area was swiss cheesed. The left side shackle mount was junk to but the frame was good on that side. The truck came from KY, one of those salt states.

So now I'm fighting with the good truck.
Have the tire carrier out, all rivets out and holes cleaned out/off.
Went to remove rear spring shackles and bolt broke. Broke in the leaf spring bushing.
So now I'm stuck trying to fix this too.
Any thoughts as to how to get that bushing out?
Never easy.

dang, your probably going to have to take the leaf spring out completely and press the bolt out. you could try some penetrating spray and a pneumatic hammer see you can free up the bolt without removing the bushing

If I end up needing to remove the leaf spring, I may then take the spring from the parts truck. That one came apart.
Always fun.

Swap the leaf and a shackle, if it broke the bolt the bushing is probably vulcanized to the bolt, and will take a fair bit to come out.

I'd swap both from the parts truck so you have a matching pair. There is 2 dozens listings for springs on these trucks.

Well, all I can say is WTF.
I think I found my problem, and it's not the tire carrier. Well not just that.
Got the carrier in and thought, wow, with the leaf springs disconnected, the frame is really loose. Then I notice it's pivoting up by the front leaf spring shackle. Frame is cracked. Only top leg of frame is holding.
I then notice the frame is actually two pieces riveted together. So now it looks looks like I'm changing out the rear portion of the frame too.
But at least it did not split on me while driving.

Anybody ever take the frame sections apart? Any pointers?
Thanks.

And I'll change out both springs.

Oh yea, to add to the fun, putting trick back in garage to clear door, (with rear leaf shackles off) I stressed the drive shaft and it split up by the tranny. Can the star gear be placed back in?
Goes into the oops, that was stupid, I knew better category.

Finally getting back to it. Taking day out of work to get it done.
The parts truck was in a wreck. Front end smashed in.

Got the spring bushing into the leaf. Went in easier than I thought. With the help of my grandfather's old C clamp. Wonderful thing. Thank you Grandpa.
Have frame piece off parts truck, trying to get the fuel tank support cross member off now. Mine is holding, but in sad shape. Fear I'll be back at this on a year if I don't do it now, and well, it's already apart.

1 step forward, 3 back.
Have it all but done. Bed back on, just bumper and trailer hitch to do, and find out I have no tail lights, no license plate light.
Back up, turns, hazard, brake lights all work.
Seems both lines to plate light grounded.
Put multi meter to positive and then to each terminal and both read 14 v .
Not sure of I messed up wire harness, or if this is a pre existing issue I was just not aware of.
Read it may be light switch.
Any thoughts.
And here's a pic of the old frame section.
Rather bad.
