So the past few days I had been noticing a sort of squealing/rattling noise coming from my engine. As the days went on, I started getting worried it was the timing chain tensioners possibly starting to go (172k on my truck and I know these engine have had issues with the guides breaking and tensioners fail.) Then today I began to notice a sort of burning smell coming into my cab on the way to work and back home, almost like burning rubber. I get home and pop the hood, looking down on the passenger side of the engine bay where the noise was sounding like it was coming from.

Come to find out, the pulley for the serpentine belt tensioner had worn down all the way to the BEARING! There was a small pile of built up serpentine belt gunk from where it was eating away at the belt. Talk about being lucky enough to not have the belt snap while driving and leave my stranded LOL! I'll be getting it fixed tomorrow and hopefully everything will go smoothly.
