Unhappy Temperature gauge not working

I bougth recently a ranger last week when I bought it the temperature gauge was workin perfectly. Few days later the needle of the gauge dropped dead, now the temperature has no reading even after running for a few minutes down the road.

I already did:

-change the thermostat (which btw was broken)
-changed the sensor sending signal to the gauge cluster
-tested de sensor sending signal with ground to check the cluster. ( by grounding it the needle goes all the way to HI )

I don't know what else to do. Would apreciate some help.

Should be two sensors.. one that goes to the gauge itself which is basically a Static gauge and another feeds the ECU information. And one of those should also feed the fan relay switch I believe as well.

Somewhere on here is more information in search feature...

I checked the engine coolant temperature readings, the temperature stays at 89c while at iddle. I did this by using an obd2 scanner. If the temperature has a reading that means the computer sensor is ok. The needle of the temp gauge stays dead.

Any help guys, what else can i do?

These should be what you will see. The one with a single wire isnt a sensor, its the sending unit for the gauge.

Remove the connector, turn the key forward without starting it, and ground out the wire. If the needle in the gauge moves the wiring and gauge are good and the sender is bad or the threads arent making good contact to metal.

If that proves to be true you could remove sender, clean the threaded area with a wire brush and reinstall and test.. if it still fails.., R&R the sender

I'm pretty sure it means your engine is bad... time for 5.0 swap!

I did the test with the sending unit ( the one on the left of the picture) and the needle goes all the way to HI. I all ready replaced the sending unit with a new one. Now will proceed to brush wire the assembly to see if it works. Will keep you posted.

If all else fails, take the sensor back and exchange for a new one. Sometimes you can get a bad one. I got a bad coil pack 3 times in a row. Talk about one hell of a nightmare. Lol
