I'm 6'2 and Ive slept in the cab of my manual reg cab before. It's tight but you do what you have to do sometimes.
I wish, it would make life easier! And I can't even imagine sleeping in mine! I'm only 5'10 too. Id rather just stay in the bed of the truck with a blanket.

I currently have two small tool kits, my backpack with computer gear, and a jacket in the xcab and it's full. I can't imagine having no cab back there. I just did the explorer console and seat swap today, seats are so much more comfortable.

Thanks.. its got a lot of behind the scenes things people woukd normally just discount like bluetooth.. but in 93 those two words were never spoken together lol.

There is also some personal choice things i may not show just because of privacy or security reasons. As i get the rear bed tied up some, I'll probably do a video walk around.

I love the camper shell, I would love to get one, but I probably can't afford it. I've always dreamed of even putting a cap on my truck and then some sort of tent/camper on top of the cap. So I can somehow put my dirtbike in the cap and go across the country with it.

And I like that you switched the window out, part of me wants to do the same especially after it was broken into, but the other part of me doesn't want to because opening that window is my source for air conditioning!

Those toppers arent cheap thats for sure. Amazing enough during a rough time in life and im gonna leave it basically at that with the added precept that i became a minimalist after my divorce..

The materialistic things in life i shed, sold off, gave away and opted for only things that would assist or encourage experiences in life instead. But during that transition that $6600 topper was gifted to me by an old co worker whose wife said get rid of it now.. i considered that a blessing and have remained truly thankful.

Inbox me some contact info, we should talk about options for you.. ive got plenty of design work for what you're probably thinking to look at

As for the back window.. yea ive never been a real fan for sliders. Next thing is to pull the topper off temporarily, basically spray liner the bed, throw an accordian boot in that window and the topper slider and make a pass through.

Honestly I would just sell what you have and get a newer Ranger. It sounds to me like you're paying the consequence for the previous owners lack of care and maintenance. Rangers last better than most cars and trucks if taken care of, but neglect will kill even the toughest vehicle. Even if you fix the current issues, what other timebombs are lurking?

When I was doing my research for my purchase, I learned that the older engines were less reliable than the newer SOHC. That was a big deal for me, as I specifically wanted reliability. You may just simply be a victim of this, but honestly it sounds like the vehicle just wasn't serviced frequently in the past. 2008 and newer have a lower ride height, but that's a pretty easy fix. The nice thing about buying a newer, rust free truck is that you can take control of it's condition, get it rustproofed for the winter (take it to a good place where they spray inside of the panels), and keep track of the servicing.

For some price perspective, here in Ontario I paid $9500 Canadian for my 2009 sport 4x4, and that was from a dealer. That's $7200 in USD.

Today I was on my way home from school and It's really warm in new jersey today and I turned off my heat and the engine stalled and then came back on. And then I tried it a few more times and it did the same thing. I guess there's a short somewhere. I love my truck, but the previous owners didn't take proper care of it and now I'm paying for it.
And then I try it again a few hours later and it doesn't do it. It also won't start first try every time. It will just click, and click. and then on the fourth or fifth turn of the key it starts right up. I don't know whats wrong with this truck, or if it suffers from old vehicle syndrome.

That accordion would be ideal actually. And no matter where I look for these kind of cool ideas, it seems like I'm the only person on the east coast with a long bed reg cab ranger

Your starting issues are 1 of 3 possible issues and working backwards from the most notorious id check your starter, sadly the external start solenoid isnt easily rebuildable and for the headaches id swap in a new one.

Worst case scenario you've eliminated a larger portion of future issues, you may/may not have an extra starter you could have rebuilt for future unsuspected possible failure, and considering you might not have a payment in this vehicle [wild assumption]... the maintenance costs less payments should feel less dents in the wallet.

People on average these days misconstrue what used to be called preventative maintenance and instead wait fir failures, broken down situations, or just overall believe that every day that goes by is just like how many of us treat our own selves.. last minute oh shit I'm old and didn't take care of myself, now what.

Such a throw it away society that sees such little value in things that are nit within a self preconceived parameter of perfection or instant gratification.

Ive sold cars for the last 10-11 years before now. Do you know how many opportunities I've had while working at BMW, Infiniti, Nissan, Ford, and Toyota I have had to score deals on trade in's they basically bought for pennies on the dollar? Let alone the purchase or lease of a new truck, or car?

Staaaaapppph....

I chose to drive this 337k mile truck because its cheap to fix, cheap to maintain, lending to a ridiculous low cost of ownership on everything from insurance to keeping it on the road even throwing premium fuel in her with upgrades that fit my needs and hobbies and such.. call me odd, I know some are already in thought.

As long as the body is good, frame is straight.. everything else is fixable.

Your fan switch thing going on I'm trying to think on still

That clicking noise is the starter solenoid, it's probably slightly corroded and not getting good electrical feed, or possibly sticking. This is sometimes caused by cold, too. Sounds to me like the solenoid is on it's way out and should probably be replaced.

I can't see why a short circuit on the A/C would stall your engine, unless it somehow cut power to the coils which doesn't really make sense to me. However a seized A/C compressor definitely would stall your engine (or shred the belt, if the engine was revving high enough) until you turned the A/C off. So it sounds like you're also in the market for a new A/C compressor.

Overall man, I'd say keep your old truck, sell that POS Hyundai, use the money to get a newer truck to be your daily driver, and fix up your old truck in your spare time. You could even do a v8 swap and suspension lift like this guy:

You keep saying a/c and I don't even have it I just replaced the fan control resistor and that might be where the short is, I might try a new connection on the wires(It was too cold to solder when I tried).

I want to just fix the current truck and keep it as a daily, but the fixing never ends... seems like every other week something is an issue. but I love the truck, its in great condition and with only 150k on it, she's just barely broken in!

Part of me wants to rip and strip my 3.0 and get it all cleaned up, new gaskets and all that jazz, but then I think that it might be cheaper and make more sense to just do a 4.0 swap? no?

IDK what I want in life I'm only human and I really only want 2 of everything. (except the Hyundai... 1 is 2 too many)

You see thats my issue, the truck is immaculate. body is straight, no rust, no dents, and its just beautiful. The interior isn't in as great of shape, but a new headliner, and some nice new comfortable seats and a center console don't seem to be so far away!

Underestm8ted is right, society has become to accustomed to throw away mentality. Those who can afford it buy new cars, treat them like dirt and ditch them before the warranty expires. It's the next poor fool and down the line who gets screwed from the lack of maintenance. I've seen some camper tops on craigslist in the past month on the cheap, some as low as $200 and others that said just come take it. They certainly aren't like new, but do have life left in them. If you have the AC compressor on the truck, then the truck will activate it when the heat is on as well and that actuation will cause more stress on the drive system. Whenever mine comes on (with the heat) I feel a short surge in RPM and then it idles 100rpm higher. I think that's the angle they were coming from on the stall. If that compressor clutch is starting to lock up, it basically stalls the belt hence the shutdowns.

I don't have an ac compressor, I don't have any ac components.

My first car was a 86 Ford Escort... (stop laughing fuckers, it was better than the shoe-leather express.. lol)

When I got it, I picked it up at 5:30PM left the dealership at 6:10 came home at 3am with 425 miles on it the first night !

Anyway long story short. The previous owner, she raod the clutch all the way from basically Southgate Michigan all the dam way to Eastern University in Ypsilanti, Michigan. I don't recall how far that is but its at least a 40-55 minute drive on the E-way at 65mph.

3 months in I had to do a clutch. 8 mos later, the head gasket went, (I know, I know its an Escort...!).

Lets not get into all of what I had planned for the car. I think the car sat in the garage for almost a year before I got motivated to fix the head. In that time I think I did a pretty good sized Audio system with at least 4 revisions in that time. But in time I got a new head and gasket.

The new head didnt have a hole for the shaft for the mechanical fuel pump despite the provisions for such a thing in the casting. Take the head off, down to a shop that milled a hole in the head for me, reinstalled NEW gasket, NEW head bolts (cast block aluminum heads) only to find out that there was not even a lobe on the cam for the mechanical fuel pump.. more problems..

I wanted to set the car on fire and roll it down the hill... those who live in Michigan are laughing because there ARE NO HILLS in Michigan..!

Anyway.. long story short. My skills of trouble shooting problems and solving them in my ways, my attention to detail, actually my whole passion for cars and appreciation for the automotive industry as a whole, let alone most of my working life in that industry is because I learned to fix shit on my own..

WELCOME to the automotive industry (early life-bug surprise).. lol

As for the engine swap.. What do you plan on doing with the truck overall? Just to have a truck? Offroading/camping stuff? It may be options for other things like 5.0L or maybe even a 4.6 swap. I mean if your gonna do it go bigger in one step not multiples.

Its a car engine, you're not training yourself how to ride dirt bikes starting at an 80 2-stroke and working your way up to a 450 4-stroke.

----------

And you have a good community here to help as long as you're willing to keep yourself around the group as well as Google search, rockauto.. etc
