Well, its a sad but happy day.
As some of you may or may not know, the ranger has succumb to the ridiculous amount of salt they spread on the roads up here. With 14 years and 190,000 miles of service in Boone, the frame finally gave in. The body is on its way out too. Floorboard is starting to rust though, and I ultimately decided there isn't any way to save it. So, I'm going to be parting most of it out. I'm going to keep the engine and maybe a couple other things from it, though. But in other good news, I bought a 2005 F250 6.0l with 130,000 miles on it. Fully loaded lariat with head studs, OEM headgaskets, EGR delete, OEM O ringed heads, coolant filtration system, new oil cooler Atlas 40 FICM tune, SCT X4, updated STC fitting. Clean truck from Georgia, not a lick of rust. (And it's gonna stay that way) I'm really really going to miss the ranger. I'll eventually search around for another just like it one day.

Re: Well, its a sad but happy day.
So bad heads come in to the machine shop, so they are all bad?
Plenty of 6.0's at high power levels with a bunch of miles on them. They can definitely be bulletproofed. People mod them and don't do supporting mods, then act surprised when they go bad.
You're just seeing the bad ones. That's like someone who works at att saying "don't buy an android, every time someone brings in a broken one, it doesn't work."
And, OP, it has everything it needs. The problems start with the oil cooler clogging on the coolant side and it snowballs from there.

Re: Well, its a sad but happy day.
lol yeah, theres a LOT of 6.0s out there. so your gonna see lots of repairs. just sucks that they have a reduced count of TTY headbolts out of the factory.
anyways, congrats on the purchase Al! i'm sure you'll enjoy that truck more than i enjoy mine lol! still trying to work an egr delete into the near future. does it have updated FPR, dummy plugs, and standpipes?

Standpipes and dummy plugs should be updated, I'll have to check the receipts. By FPR do you mean the blue spring mod? If so I'm not too sure to be honest. I know a lot of 6.0 heads crack from running high EGT's for longer than they should. My buddy is a photographer and got a pretty good rolling shot the other day:

Re: Well, its a sad but happy day.
Yeah egt's do it. People throw on a tuner without a Pyro all the time.
It's a damn good looking truck, I've always loved white trucks and 6.0's are tied with 6.4's for my favorite SD as far as looks go.

When I sold my 07 Ranger and bought a new 2014 F150 supercab, I soon after realized that most parking lots aren't set up for full size trucks.

Yeah it's definitely interesting parking it. It's actually a lot easier than I though it was. It has the Parking sensors which make it much easier to back up and what not.

that's great man, got pretty much everything done! & yeah, i was talking about the blue spring mod. another fun thing ti do is take the kitty to the vet if you know what i'm saying (if you got a stock exhaust with a CAT, i'll post the part number of the delete pipe i have). no CEL because no downstream sensors. Plus, they say that helps with those egts, as well as makes a neat sound and lets a bit more flow through being as you got a tune on it.
if you don't have the blue spring, there's 2 different kits out there, one has the cover ans the other doesn't. save you about $30 if you think you can get away with it.

I'll have to check for the blue spring mod. It is straight piped however, so we're good there.

LoL, I was thinking to myself... Parking or heck even driving that Monster in Boone must be fun after rolling in the Ranger. Any who, that's a nice looking trunk and a good rolling picture too!

Re: Well, its a sad but happy day.
I get my kicks fixing things that are better off being melted down. I'm in the process of hammering out a 5' repair piece that will eventually become the lower flange of the Rat's left frame rail. I learned how to bend steel as a ship fitter. Ranger frames are riveted together. Ive got about 15 rivets to drill out and replace with bolts. They will hold the frame together without welding. I have already replaced 30" further forward. Like a lot of things, it is do-able. Worth while ? Idiots delight, probably
