Default Check engine light after unplugging charcoal canister

This weekend I cut out my spare tire crossmember and made a new bracket for the charcoal canister along with a rear cross brace for a bumper. In doing so, charcoal canister had to be unplugged. Accidentally forgot to plug it back in and cel came on when I turned on the truck. Went back and plugged it in, but check engine light is still on. Is it just a matter of clearing the code, or is something else needed? Any help greatly appreciated, thanks

Try clearing the code first, or it may just go off on its own after a few cycles

What cycles are you referring to?

Just clear the code, and turn the truck back and it should be fine.

Sometimes cycles is referred to turning the truck on/off and having it run through it's check via a pre determined amount of time.

IE Not necessary true with Ranger:
Turn vehicle on, and drive for 20 miles, shut vehicle off. Turn vehicle on again and that counts as one cycle. It might take 3 of those before the vehicle knows that everything is OK and then clears the code automatically.

Hi rangerdanger77

I believe everyone's advice is correct, just try clearing the code first. There is a sensor on there, and I know that mine is genuinely gone. Its about $300 through the dealer to get another setup, however my Ranger is just about 20 years old now, even in MA they stop emissions at 15 yr.... so I dont worry about it. Good Luck!
