Buying a Ranger
I'd like ya'll's opinions please?
This is the Ranger I want to buy:
Its a 2011 Single Cab XLT.
37,000 miles
4 cylinder
Manual transmission
Cloth seats
Cruise Control
Tilt wheel
Power windows
Power locks
AM/MP3/FM radio
One owner
No accidents
Apparently in immaculate condition
The dealer wants $13,500 for it. Which is crazy. Auction trucks just like this go for $9,000. Is offering them $9,500 out the door a reasonable offer? (I've already been negotiating with them on the price)
Thank you!

Re: Buying a Ranger
I don't know, 37,000 miles isn't a lot for that truck means there is about 200,000 left on it.
If I were in the market for that particular color and style I wouldn't have a problem with $11,000 but that's me.
Boils down to if you want it.
Good looking truck BTW welcome to the forum Kyle

Thank you! I'm gonna offer $9,250 as my anchoring price. And then probably will end up paying $10,000 if they follow through with all the dickering. The end of the month is in a few days too - i'm hoping that'll play in my favor!

Re: Buying a Ranger
Maybe. 10k sounds like the high end. From a dealer standpoint you should pay a little more because they had to buy it and transport it and maintain it...etc. From my standpoint id offer 8500 and try to get it for 9.

Re: Buying a Ranger
price is a little steep but for the options it's got and the low miles not unheard of, doubtful you'll find one that's comparable for much less. mabe you can get the dealer to toss in some goodies, like a bedliner and some rain guards for the windows or something to soften the blow.

Re: Buying a Ranger
Thank ya'll for your replies!
It has brand new tires on it which is a plus, but auction trucks are $9,000 for a nice truck. So I figured i'd start out at $9,250 so we could probably end up at around $10,000. Which would be fine with me considering that yes they are a dealership and not an auction house.

Re: Buying a Ranger
They want 13,500 for a regular cab 2 wheel drive 4 banger? Are they high (not on price but drugs)?
You can get a 4 wheel drive supercab with a 4.0 the same year, and same miles for about 500 bucks more.

Re: Buying a Ranger
I am always amazed at how well these trucks hold their value. Even mine, being 19 years old and salvaged title is worth more than my much newer car with similar very low miles....
That being said, I looked up what KBB, nda, and endmuds, and they all say this vehicle is worth between 12,500 and 13,500, and they are asking the very top of the market, and I don't think they will go below 12500, so be willing to walk away if they won't come to your price. They know they'll get it from somebody, so are probably not willing to work much (depending on how hungry they are for the sale).
near me there is a 2011, admittedly with a few more options, but its going for $22k...

you can buy a brand new f-150 for less money at the same dealership...

Re: Buying a Ranger
Ever since I sold my 2011, I get offers for it in the mail from dealerships that don't know I traded it. I paid $22,000 for it brand new. Every offer I get in the mail is $22,000. Even today, in 2016.
That is just fucking ridiculous. Keeping that truck would have been pretty smart. I could have driven it for 5 years for free

I had a 2007 chevy colorado (well an Isuzu I-290). Loved that truck, but traded it in on a sedan when my wife found out we were having baby #1, at the end of 2009 since we had two motorcycles, a VW bug (71 super beetle) and the truck, had to get cars that were more family friendly... I didn't pay a lot for it, got a decent amount for it when we traded it, but if I had kept it, it would have remained low mileage, and I could sell it today for more than what I paid for it back in 2007.

I wouldn't be too sure on that one. Those trucks were well known for major mechanical issues, that would impact what it would be worth today.

small truck prices around here are crazy. I'm not saying its correct, its just the way it is. piece of junk or not, low mileage ones are sold for their weight in gold.

You two may not remember...but I drove it for 2 years, traded with 22k ish on the odo and they listed it for $21 or $22k and it sold in a week...
I have no knowledge of what they got for it tho
22k for that ranger was a good deal. Sticker was $28k.
As far as ranger vs full-size...the only f150 I liked was an FX4 and those go for way more than I could afford then. In fact...the F150 FX4 I traded the ranger in for stickered over $45k
