I have a 1999 Sport. The front section of boxed frame on the driver side has rotted through the bottom. I have researched and read many threads but the all have to do with the rear half of the frame being replaced. Has anyone else had problems with the front half of their frame going bad? It is rotted right in front of the crossmember for the transmission.

Hate to say it, but the trucks days are probably numbered. I'm willing to bet that other parts of the frame are getting pretty weak as well. If there is solid metal around the cancer, you can try having it patched, but by no means is that an ideal fix. Best way to fix it is a new/clean frame. But that involves swapping the cab and motor.

If the drivetrain is good, I'd be looking for a clean truck with a bad motor or trans.

Yes Im aware the way she sits its just a matter of time. I do know that the frame of this truck is modular. I was wanting to see if anyone has ever just swapped the front portion. The truck really only has to last until I lleave for boot camp and when Im home on leave after that.

The front half can be switched, but it would be a ton of work. You would essentially be swapping all of your wiring/cab/running gear over to the new frame.

If you're talking about just swapping out a section of frame rail (other than the "modular" front or back half) that would fall under "patching".

probably more cost effective to buy another ranger, & use your current one for parts. might be able to have someone weld a plate over it, but many people won't touch it due to liability concerns.

I leave for Parris Island on February 21st, I blew the rear end out of my wrangler and thats why I bought my second ranger. I desperately needed something to tool around in.
