Default Tachographs

Hi Guys, I could really use your help.

Here in the good old UK we have laws regarding smaller vehicles (eg a 4x4) for towing. If its total weight is more than 3.5 tonnes you need a tachograph. ( A tachograph is a device fitted to a vehicle that automatically records its speed and distance, together with the driver's activity selected from a choice of modes).

We have a 2011 Ford Ranger that came in because the tachograph stopped working, we replaced the tachograph and now the speedometer isn't working. All the other dials/lights ARE working. We sent the instrument cluster away for testing and apparently the speedo dial works under tests.

For years now the factory speed sensor wasn't attached, but instead a Tachograph Speed Sender was used which links to the tachograph ( as input ) then out of the tachograph to a capacitor then to the back of the instrument cluster ( to the blue a silver hatched wire ).

The tachograph has been configured to meet requirement but we still cant get the speedometer to work. When we have the Ranger on the rolling road in motion, we attach a pulse sensor from the exit of the tacho, before the capacitor and it pulses. When the pulse sensor is placed after the capacitor, then the pulses stop. We've been trying to fix this for weeks, but cant get the speedometer to work, Can anyone suggest anything.

The only other fault/error we had when the vehicle came in was ( No Vehicle Speed Sensor ), we cleared the fault and it doesn't come back.

Thanks, Paul.
