Default Funny thing happened today.... I think I've lost a little faith in people

So I went to Autozone to buy a new PCV valve and while I was there a young guy, about 20, was talking to the employee saying that his truck's temperature needle was pointing to H and he didn't know what to do. I noticed his truck when I was walking in and it was a 2001 V6 3.0L Edge. Pretty similar to mine so I said I'd have a look for him. First thing I did was check the coolant, and of course there was none in the reservoir. I told him what was wrong and he had no idea what coolant even was. So I told him to keep his truck running to open the thermostat and we poured some in. It took 10 qts. before the reservoir stayed full, the thing only has a capacity of 13!!!! I opened the hood of my truck to put my new PCV valve in and while looking at the two engines felt a little proud of my recently tuned-up and clean engine compared to his dirt-covered and obviously in need of a tune-up engine. But man, are all people really that oblivious?

Hey, not all of us are as irresponsible and oblivious. I'm only 18 and take better care of my truck that most people out there do.

I'm a kid. I know that. It's not something to hide haha. I just don't like when people judge me or think that I don't know anything or think I'm up to no good.

There do seem to be a few sparks missing on some kids these days.

My 19 year old son just marvels that I can look at most any older vehicle, 4 wheel, 2 wheel,
or winged, and identify it.

"How do you do that?"

It is just a matter of passion. Vehicles are just appliances to them, thus they lack the spark
of interest a lot of us "old folks" have, I reckon...

I think it has more to do with personality because I am a really big neat freak and cars just happens to be something I like to research and look into. So naturally on my own truck I love everything to be clean and know everything about it.

I'm only 19 but have a strong passion for cars. Whenever I would be with my ex she would see some kind of (possibly weird-looking to her) car and turn to me, "What kind of car is that?" and be amazed when I shot an answer right back at her.

I blame his dad, uncles, and older males in his family for not teaching him the basics about maintenance...If he has no interest, and no one to teach him, you cant really blame his ignorance.

I claim to be a "pro" seeing as I know a lot of cars and have been working in a mechanic shop since 6th grade. I guess it helps that I work retail in an Auto parts store, but the truth is that I'm by no means a "pro"

Either way, it just goes to show you that a lot of people only know that the right pedal means go and the left means stop and thats about it. Who knows how much longer cars would last and how much less gas we would use if people understood at least some basics about what is going on under that hood.

Mechanics would have a lot less income then.
