Default What's the beeping?

Gentlemen, Ladies,
This prob may have been covered before, but..... 2003 Ranger Edge.
On starting, in addition to the seat belt warning beep, there is another, softer beep. It "dings" 5 times then stops for a moment then "dings" again. It does this 5 times for a total of 25 "dings" before it stops. It will also start "dinging" anytime while I'm driving. It's not the seat belt ding. Don't think it's the door chime as my interior lights do not come on. Air bag warning? Or does anyone know if it could it be a transmission thing?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Sam

Big Fish,
Thank you for the reply. No lights are on. I'm thinking that it could be the "Air bag" warning beep (light burned out),. But was wondering if it could be a "Transmission" thing. Went to the dealership and the Service Mgr told me that he didn't know what it was (????) I'm not taking my Truck the that dealership!!!!

If the airbag light is burnout thats got to be it. When a bulb like that is burned out it gives a warning.

Thanks Fish, I'll look into that. Although I hate to pull the dash just to replace a bulb. But, that chime is driving me nuts.

Wow..

The 5 x 5 beep is the backup alarm for the airbag system. This is in the owner's manual.

Replace the airbag warning lite in the cluster and the beeping will go away. Now, with a primary warning indicator that works, you can count the flashes to get a two-digit lamp Fault Code (LFC) that will guide you towards diagnosing the fault in the airbag system.

Look at the light for the passenger airbag switch.

iF YOU DO NOT REPAIR THE LAMP AND ANY FAULTY EQUIPMENT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM WILL NOT FUNCTION. With that disclaimer the alarm speaker can be removed. Idont know what other systems use this backup warning speaker either. If you pull the radio bezel on the driver side you will see a little black box with 4 connectors. Mine was attached by just the one screw which is easily visible. remove the connectors pull the unit open it inside is a circuit board, the spaeker is the black cylinder with the hole in the middle simply grab it with pliers and widdle it around til it comes off. DONT DAMAGE ANYTHING ELSE ON THE BOARD it controls a good many things. Its probably for the best to get your airbag system repaired but if you a building a rock crawling rig this is how you get rid of that damn alarm.
