I just bought this truck from a tow truck driver for pretty cheap. Did a carfax on it and there wasn't any record of the odometer readings. It wasn't registered very often throughout its history, either. One owner until the owner tried to sell it to another guy who failed to get it to smog. His friend drove it and fried the clutch.
Well the tow guy came out and picked it up, changed the clutch, replaced the fuel filler hose, and replaced the back tires. I bought it as is.
For the first person in my immediate family to have a truck, this is a little like uncharted territory.
Mileage...how many miles does it have? Based on the pedals, steering wheel, and shift knob, I thought that it might not have rolled over the mileage. Could this be a 21.7K mile truck? maybe? Probably 121K right? perhaps more?
I'd like some help in figuring that out by looking at these pictures.
Also, the dashboard coolant temperature indicator is stuck. Is there a common cause for this? Thanks!
I hope you have fun checking out the pictures of my mystery ranger.
thanks in advance. much appreciation for any perspective here.

Thanks, Jeffie!
I'll look into that differential oil.
It had some dirty oil in it and it wasn't low on oil, so that's a good sign
I'd think that the miles would matter because it would help me know when to expect to change different parts like the water pump, radiator, belts, and alternator

it's an older truck, be ready for anything, and preventative maintenance helps

quote of the day:
The round flowing fenders of this vehicle have been lovingly reconstructed by a Dutch craftsman out of, what could be considered the most precious material on earth, bondo
At that age most of it is rotten. Look at belts and hoses. If they are suspect -replace. Prob need to change the manual transmission fluid too. Check air filter. Might need plugs. See how it acts.
shocks are probably toast.
Many things. You could replace about everything.
Keep it simple , do on as needed basis.
these guys on here will save you a barrel of cash
The upholstery material used on the seats back then was incredibly durable, and with a driver of average or less weight, would outlast the seat foam. With that in mind and looking at the pics (pedals and other wear) I'd call it 221K.

timing belt replaced. serpentine belt replaced. differential fluid replaced. transmission fluid replaced. engine oil replaced. radiator & hoses replaced.
Thanks guys.
Oh, and I "developed" a ford ranger timing belt tensioner/installer tool. took video & it'll be posted on youtube so I can give back to the community. It's basically a 1 1/8" socket with some cuts and notches in it. works great!
