Default Timing belt change

My owners manual says change timing belt every 60k. I just bought a 2000 Ranger Sport with 170k but no service info on it. If the timing belt breaks, does it damage the engine?

It does not need to be changed OR it doesn't harm engine if it breaks?

Post a photo of the page in the manual that says change the timing belt every 60,000. Ford does not recommend the timing belt being replaced at 60,000. I pulled up a 1997 2.3 manual maintenance schedule and the only mention of timing belts is to inspect the belt at 100,000 miles.
Back in the 70s and 1980s timing belts were replaced at 60,000 miles but that was back when belts were not even close in durablity as they have been over the last 25 years.
