Cold air intakes are only good if they take in air outside the engine bay and keep it cool enough until it reaches the engine.
stock intake already does this

A CAI isn't much benefit unless the other end is opened up some as well. The trick is balancing the exhaust system so you don't lose torque while trying to gain horsepower.
not true - the head is the weakest link in the chain. losing torque has nothing to do with the intake - it has to do with scavenging exhaust quickly at low rpm with fast flows.

With most I-4 engines, out there one would have to spend a lot of money for little gain.
true with basically any N/A factory engine today 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 cylinders..

Looking at my 2.5L, I would probably gain more by porting and polishing the intake and head than getting a CAI.
cams and a tune would be the best move.

i logged my intake temperatures at various speeds today - it was 90 out.

highest intake temperature was 93 degrees at 45mpg, at 70mph intake temperature was 90; exactly ambient.

Does it void the factory warranty?

You mean taking the intake cylinder off? I don't see why it would.

I don't think they would even notice it missing. It can't void anything even if they did notice it.

What's wrong with the cold air intake that came on the truck?

They flow more air than the engine can handle, as it is...
