This might just be the name of the game, but it kinda feels like my ranger struggles with towing a simple trailer with a lawnmower on it, it might weigh a ton at most, I know I'm running 32's but with the 4.0 SOHC and 4.10's I feel like it really struggles, there is no CEL and my truck has new plugs wires etc and is well maintained, for a supposed 210 hp engine on a light truck I feel like something is still wrong with it, I'm pretty sure I'm beating a dead horse with this question but I figured I'd ask anyway

Well, you do have the OHV 4.0, which was rated at something like 155hp vs the SOHC 4.0 which had 207hp.

I can't think it should struggle too much, I've hauled some pretty heavy shit around with my 3.0 and it handled it well. only thing that felt too heavy was my john deere tractor, but that damn thing probably weighed almost as much as the truck lol.

when was the last time you did a tune up?

Hmm, I'm using the IPhone App and I can't see my signature, so I don't know what it says, but now that I know that I'll need to get on the laptop and change that to my new truck

And yeah I mean I've done spark plugs, wires, and keep regula 3K oil changes, all my fluids have been flushed within the last 10K miles, I haven't done the coil pack yet, but that's really the only thing I can think of that I haven't done

My engine isn't throwing any codes and seems to be running alright, I bought my truck used and have wondered since day 1 if maybe someone screwed with the tuning of it, like uploaded an aftermarket program and never switched it back or told me, cause it just doesn't feel right, if I would disconnect my MAF sensor or something of the sort could I get the truck to run on a stock program or fuel trim of some sort to test if it would run better?

Sounds like everything that is on your truck is solid. Check your throttle cable, I bet it is stretched and you are not fully opening your throttle plate, this will show up as your truck feeling under powered. Made a difference in my rig. One other thing I found was that my TPS although checked fine with the volt meter, it was acting lazy, once I replaced it, I had really good response, good shifts and it would return to idle much faster when coming to a stop light. I did the throttle cable mod already, few months back, but I haven't checked recently, so I'm gonna re check that when I go back out. Also I'm gonna check this TPS out, I'm guessing it's a throttle position sensor by the acronym, I'll be honest, I'm new to vehicles in the past two years and didn't know it even existed, with my time on here and other experiences I've learned so much, but all the different sensors and parts of engines are newer to me, I mainly learn as I go or need to replace them, I've cleaned my throttle body, IAC, and MAF, as I've learned what all those sensors do, I've replaced my crankshaft position sensor and others too, but that's by learning what they are and what they do, now that I've heard about this TPS I'll have to check it out, maybe it will help my problem

Replaced the TPS today, found my throttle body was very dirty and cleaned that up a bit, throttle response is definitely snappier and truck shifts better. But still not 100% what I was looking for, I think it might just be the truck in all honesty, I'll report back next time I tow something

Just thought of another issue that most just overlook. Make sure that you do not have your brakes dragging, there are times that your rear ones will drag ever so slightly. Finally if you have high mileage, your injectors might not be up to par feeding the right amount of fuel.

My e brake cables are new so my rear brakes shouldn't be dragging, that was serviced a few months ago, though I will admit not getting enough fuel kinda crossed my mind a few times, I replaced the fuel filter so that's not the issue, injectors I'm not sure about
