Generally no. Not really a need for it with stock shackles. But flipping the shackle is said to give better suspension travel.

Thanks. ELEAL14 said he might swap in an explorer rear end setup. What would be the benefit of doing that?

Besides the strength of the axle, an explorer 8.8 is a leaf spring under axle setup. Moving the axle from underneath the spring to on top of the spring results in the rear end being roughly 5 inches lower.

I get the stronger axle part but is there any other benefit? If you do this do you still leave the front untouched?

Now you have less ground clearance for the rear axle?

When you are lowering you want less ground clearance

Also I think most people who do the Explorer axle swap do it for the disc brake option too.

And by front are you meaning the front of the truck? Yes most people do something to lower the front suspension as well.

Swapping in lowering shackles or flipping your rear hangers on your leaf springs, no you do not need to do anything to the front of the leaf spring

I get the exploder end rear swap if you had busted springs or a blown Diff but it seems like the issue here is an incorrectly installed shackle mod? Why not just fix the mod? Again I'm here to learn. I know nothing about these mods? Seems like his truck is in good shape. He might be swapping in an unknown part for a perfectly good one?
