2010 2.3 stick on a reg cab. Reliable.

213k miles and counting.

Ehhh the 4.0 is an "evolved" 2.9. The 2.9s while completely different from the 3.0, was pretty much an unreliable 3.0 in terms of power output.

And heads warping with blown head gaskets, I am learning. Would after market heads and headers for the exhaust fix that problem

My 2010 2.3 at 207k miles had a cracked head and needed a replacement head/gasket job.

But the engine at 213k miles still moves those 30 inch all terrain tires no problem

Don't take this the wrong way - but I might be misunderstanding your question due to the lack of punctuation which makes it hard to follow along.

That said - no, the 2.3 was technically also available in the 2011 model year Ranger as well.

While on the subject of "best engines" just wondering if there are any inherent problems or things to look for with the 4.0 ? Have only owned the truck for 10 days.
