Default Payload 2009 Ranger

Payload rating is 1200 pounds. 1/2 yard top soil is 500 pounds. With 1/2 yard topsoil the springs are mostly compressed and seems like it cannot take any more weight.

Exactly what is payload rating referring to? How much weight the truck can carry in the bed? Or is it something else?

500lbs is way light. 1/2 yard is easily 1000 to 1500 pounds. The wetter it is the heavier also.

i concur on the air shocks! same for coil-over shocks or Timbren load supports, just don't go crazy with the payload lol

Payload includes passengers, and anything else in the truck thats not part of the truck. This also includes tounge weight of a trailer. So with 2 adults and say 50 punds of junk in the cab your taking up 400+ pounds of the payload. Add to that, springs do wear over time and your truck is 10 years old... Rangers were never made to haul alot anyway.

Makes sense. Perhaps dry top soil is 500 per half yard. Wet top soil, which it was, will be heavier. Add my fat butt and you have an overload system.

Good grief...you didn't know this? Your Man Card has been revoked.
All this information is in, of all places, the owner's manual.
