6ft in the bed angled towards a corner then 4ft hanging off the back opposit corner. Jack strap across the back and call it a day. Maybe a strap in the front along with other gear if your going anywhere far

I haul 3 kayaks around a lot in the summer.

One end against the back of the cab, other end sitting on top of the tailgate and throw a ratchet strap over the top of them.

Depending on the laws in your state you might need to get an orange rag and tie it to the tip of the kayak but other than that this method has been working for 5+ years for me.

Yep, that's how I do it, and I haul 2 at a time like that. One sits flat, upside down, and the other is kind of on its side a little, upside down. I ratchet strap it at the end of the bed and just to be a bit more safe I'll tie another strap to my bumper, fish it through 2 clips on the back end of my kayaks, then back down to the bumper. Not necessary but whatever.

Oh, then I shove all my paddles under the kayaks and toss anything else into the cab.

Got some clasps, some 2X4's, and some kid's pool noodles cut in half for padding. The only hard part was getting the end that goes into the bed stakes. It takes me about 10 minutes to put it on and 10 minutes to take it off. Hauls my 14 foot 6inch canoe and other kayaks no problem. Cost of material about 30 bucks.

Looks clean, Professional, its functional for so much more on top of that and not just one option. It telescopes for height adjustments or longer items.

Cost factors may not be so friendly to some degree but neither is making something intended to last a short time and or having to remake portions of it should the fail point become higher than thought. Although several options could be incorporated into something you may be able to build on your own.

Quite popular on the West Coast here from Surf Boards, small boats to multiple kayaks.

Just throw it in the bed, ratchet strap it down, and if legally obligated put a red rag on the end of it. Total cost? However much a ratchet strap is. Assuming you don't have any. Don't have to build it either.

I see vogenitz69 already recommended this.

To avoid having to "dead lift" the kayaks onto a roof rack, I started using a load extender which slips into my trailer hitch. This is a tee bar which can be set vertical or horizontal. My 14 foot kayak extends a long ways out the back but the tee bar holds it nice with a red bandanna as my red flag. See me "kayakmike" posts for pictures.
