Re: most miles on your ranger's original engine no engine work...
Had 367,000 km (229k mi) on my '94 when we parted ways at the end of '08.
Besides routine upkeep cost's the only issue i ever had was the temp sensor in the thermostat housing, went squirrely on me once had it replaced (didn't know a plastic one was used as a replacement instead of the original brass type) and i ended up replacing with a proper one less than a year later.
It was my first vehicle so i took hella good care of it.
That truck didn't owe me one cent, still miss it
edit - it was the reason i bought another one.

Re: most miles on your ranger's original engine no engine work...
247,000 and counting. The engine has never been out or had anything other than routine maintenance. Trans was out to have a tail shaft bushing or seal or something replaced. That was before I started learning how to work on things. It still has the original clutch. I've replaced the fuel pump, alternator, starter, and timing belt though. It's been the best truck I have ever owned. S-10, S-10 Blazer, and Sonoma were never this reliable.

My '98. One timing belt, one alternator, still on original clutch when it died.

Re: most miles on your ranger's original engine no engine work...
293,000 on my 1993 Ranger. The only engine work, other than routine maintenance, has been things like replacing the water pump, alternator, starter, valve cover gaskets, and rusted exhaust manifold studs.
