Default 2012 Ranger impressions/rant

Bought my Ranger brand new in 2012 and have almost 60K on her. LOVE the truck don't get me wrong but there are lots of quirks I can't figure out. Here are the issues I've experienced so far. Any other 2012 owners experience the same things?

* When I hit the cruise control "On" button, no dash light comes on. ONLY after I hit the on button and THEN hit "set" does it come on. Every car I've ever owned including Fords, all had the cruise light show up once you press the "On" button. Odd

* The non-skid button that supposedly turns off traction control that is down next to the MP3 plug and little cubby hole for storage,...doesn't do jack. I was in the snow the other day, turned off the traction control, gave it hell trying to do a parking lot donut and couldn't get it to spin tires without the engine bogging down and compensating for slippage. WTH is this button for then???

* Windows chatter like a Muther when putting them down. This happened within the first few thousand miles. I've just lived with it.

* The manual tells how to shut off the seatbelt warning signal. I've tried countless times, followed the manual to a "T" and it still doesn't work. My old F150 had the same procedure and it worked fine in turning it off for good. WTF??

We won't mention that the dealer had to pick up my truck with 26 miles,...26, not 260, 2600,..but 26 miles, after I came out of the house and found all the transmission fluid leaked out (LONG STORY).

Just seems like this truck was designed and put together without much thought. I will say though she still runs like a top and have had ZERO mechanical issues (besides the tranny).

Your thoughts??

Allen, that is the way the cruise works, at least on my 2000.

As far as cruise control goes, LIVE WITH IT.
You obviously didn't turn off the traction control, read the owner's manual.
Window clatter is a warranty issue.
Why the hell would you want to turn off the seat belt warning chime, if you ride without your seat belt on you must have a death wish.
Transmission issue was covered under warranty, so what's the point?
Maybe one or two people on this forum know anything about the world Ranger you have.
Making your first post on a Ranger forum and bashing the truck is a little tasteless.

I wish more companies would adopt having cruise control set up like this. Anybody driven a hyundai sonata or honda accord lately? They have a light in the ic to tell you if your headlights are on. They have another for fog lamps, cruise power, cruise activation, and "eco" mode. When all of these are on I find the number of dash lights quite distracting. My preference is to have no lights on in the instrument cluster to draw my attention, except for warning lights.

Your window chatter can definitely be fixed. If it is still under warranty, you can always have the dealer address it. If not, you can clean the rubber window channels and apply a bit of silicone spray in them, along with the rubber/felt seal at your belt moulding.

Also, I am pretty sure the op is talking about a US market ranger, which should make it a 2011. The fact that he had an f150 and reads his odometer in miles makes me think this isn't a global ranger we are talking about here

There were 2012 rangers made in the US. Primarily for Orkin. He might have one of those

Thank you, I was not aware of that. I was under the impression that the very last ones were MY11.

It might be a 2011 model year, but he just thinks its a 2012 because he bought it in 2012...

Lots of reasons for riding without a seatbelt and wanting to turn off the seatbelt chime. Out on the farm we drive around at 15-20 mph all day just on our own property constantly getting in and out of the truck, the seatbelt chime is annoying and I sure as hell ain't putting my seat belt on to drive a couple hundred feet at 15mph.

Last Ranger came off the production line on December 16, 2011 as a 2011 model.
NOBODY in the U.S. Has a U.S. built 2012+ Ranger. CASE CLOSED.

I've worked on one. Orkin has them. It was a small run. Wasn't made for the masses. the vin indicated it as a 2012 ranger. I agree no average joe should have one. Maybe one slipped through the cracks though, I've heard stranger things.

they have anti gravity capabilities. Lol but no, only bells and whistles were what Orkin put on for their driver. Might have had power locks. Can't remember.

Your attack on a new member coming here to express his experience. And possible long term concerns about his Ranger. Is VERY tasteless in my opinion. I mean come on....I buy a new vehicle and after 26 miles it shits on the driveway. You damn skippy I'd be worried about what I've gotten myself into buying it! Your "comments" reflect badly to new members of this forum in my opinion as well.

And just how do you know his traction control is not working like it should? He said he followed the manuals instructions to the letter. Perhaps somethings faulty there like the leaking tranny! Remember what the first 3 letters of the word assumption are!
