Help- Dealing with the Dealership

New to rangers, but so far i love this truck. Bought her last friday from a well known dealership in town.

Here's what happened- When i went to look at the truck, it had a tonneau cover already installed, and factory running boards in back brand new in package. The dealership said the PO bought them, never put them on, and is now part of the deal to go with the truck. I was told they fit my truck, an 04 ranger reg cab edge. When i go to install it (Im damn handy) the mounting points were clear as day for the two arms in which the board sits on, and when it was all bolted down, i could jump up and down on an arm, to make sure it was solid. when i set the board on, the holes were WAY off, not even close. I pulled the Part # and found that the boards go to a supercab and will not fit my truck.

So what do i do? Go back to the dealership and demand they buy them from me, as it was a part of the sale, or do i try to sell them independently (which i have been doing, with no luck at 150).

Also, 2 days after i bought the truck it needs new pads, they screech like its their job, should that have been done before purchase?

You're right. The extended-cab running boards will not fit a regular-cab truck. Also worth noting is that the 2-door extended cab and 4-door extended-cab trucks mount the running boards differently, as well.

IMO, you bought a truck. It included some "spare parts" in the bed of the truck. I would think you'd have an uphill climb trying to demand that the dealership buy the parts back. Most likely, they knew they were the wrong part for that truck, or else they probably would have spent the 15 minutes to install them rather than leave them in the back of the truck.

...just keep them listed in the classifieds and eventually someone will make an offer. If you want running boards for your truck, you might consider an even trade of regular-cab running boards (in good condition) for your extended-cab running boards (and you should, ASAP, determine whether they're the 2-door or 4-door extended cab version, so you can put that info in your advertisement). As it is, they cost you nothing, so you should be willing to be a bit flexible on the price.

Usually, this is the case for most reputable used car dealerships. Did your truck come with any warranty, when you bought it?

Have you examined the brake pads and determined that they, in fact, need replacing? Sometimes, a brand new set of pads will screech a little bit for a day or two after they're installed.

i would atleast go back to the dealership and say "what the fuck?" will they buy the old running boards back? doubt it. will they buy you new ones? doubt it. But it's worth a shot. I'd start with trying to have them buy you news ones first... and i would think the break pads would be under warrenty.. you shoulda atleast got a 30 day warrenty from the dealer.

you could go in and ask the, if they would be willing to trade up for a set that would fit your truck, i bet they could find a truck to put yours on but i for sure wouldnt go in there demanding anything because that probably wont get you far.

tell the dealership that they do not fit. they might exhange them for new ones that do fit. (they might)

At least here in California by law a dealer is supposed to check pads and replace if they are more than half worn.

They implied that those were the steps therefore you are entitled to the steps.

I have yet to bring up the brake issue, however i called and the sales manager would "try to find a pair that fits to exchange, and he'd call me" That was two days ago. My heart says go in there and lay down the law, but probably to no avail. I swear ill never deal with this dealership again.

i'm not clear on what law you'd like to lay down -- they sold you a used truck with some stuff in the back of it. you wish the stuff that was in the back would have fit your truck, but it doesn't.

you got new factory parts, for free, that don't fit your truck. if they happen to locate the part that matches your truck and trade you for them, great... if they don't, they don't. :shrug:

question: was this a Ford new car dealership, where you bought the used truck? if it was not a Ford-affiliated used car lot, then i would venture a guess that they're not going to find a part to swap with you. if it is a Ford-affiliated used car lot, then i'd say you have about a 50-50 chance, and it would almost entirely depend on your attitude/approach when you ask.

sometimes if you switch from OEM pad material which is Semi-Metallic to a Ceramic pad, the semi metallic becomes imbedded in the new ceramics causing them to scream. A simple rotor cutting of a few 1000th's would do the trick.
