If it isn't leaking, then there is no reason not too. If it is leaking, it might leak more.

what it all comes down to is personal prefereance. i prefer to use synthetic for a few reasons. first off i do see a small gain in gas milage. second it lasts longer, i still do my oil/filter changes every 3k miles but when i drain the oil it is in much better condition than standard oil. and third it lubricates and cleans the engine better than standard oil.

the downside of using synthetic though is the price. it does run more expensive than conventional oil. like i said though its all personal preferance. not running it is not doing any harm to your engine, and there is no real NEED to run synthetic. i just choose to.

Keeping up with the oil change is more important by a long shot.
With that said I use synthetic because it doesn't depend on additives to flow according to it's temperature grading. Those additives are what break down in conventional oil so that's why it needs changing around 3000 miles. Both of 'em get fouled over time obviously, but that takes longer.

That I'm sure is what everyone who sells oil would like you to believe. However the only thing you're really helping is the lightening of your wallet. 3000 mile oil change intervals are a joke and serve no purpose at all. Especially with synthetic oil.

Well that was the jest of the post. The different intervals. Regardless of the specific practical time between changes necessary for either.

just as an fyi to those that still think you need to change it every 3000, ford recomends 6000 mile intervals using mototcraft semi synthetic on my 4.0 and 7000 on the 5.4 in my F-150. I would spend hundreds every year on oil if I had to service my trucks every 3000. To each there own though, if it gives you peace of mind to do it every 3000 than by all means do it, but just know that you don't need to.

I read that as you were saying you have to change synthetic every 3000 miles too. oops.

I usually go between 10,000 and 15,000 miles between oil changes. Pretty sure I may have hit 20,000 once too. Still kickin and the oil isn't in bad shape (not that I had it analyzed or anything)
