Default Another MPG question

I haven't found any mention of mpg for a 2.5 lima '98. I work my truck all day with a/c on and 500lbs in the back, and I floor it when I need to. I am getting 18-20 combined mpg. Do I have much more to look for? I am crazy about maintenance and actually like to wrench. Freer flowing exhaust I'm thinking next. Maybe a flex-fan?

I would say that MPG is good. Considering I get 18-20 highway with no weight and not flooring it.

If I take it easy I can get 22mpg. Throw weight in there and Im screwed.

Thanks for the reply, new tires and suspension seem like they might pay for a/c usage. Truck feels like it has ten extra hp afterward. Oh, the front air dam fell off awhile back and cost me 2mpg without it. It being a work truck means I don't have to wait very long to see the change.

FireRanger, my truck has so much less rolling resistance that it feels like 5hp or so stronger, it really does perform better. I'm guessing this could net me mpg increase. I dropped a couple of mpg when I had to start using the a/c. I drive all day long so fuel is a big expense, kinda like for everbody I guess.

Still doesn't make much sense. Are you trying to say different size tires? Not really sure what suspension components are going to have an effect on MPG. The AC, yes it will definitely add some noticeable drag.

Just remember to think about how much your "mods" cost compared to how much the minute change in MPG will "save" you in fuel costs. If your mods cost hundreds of dollars, you aren't saving jack.

Not mods. Balljoints had major play, shocks and springs were old and weak, tires were wasted. ALL new suspension, tires, alignment made it roll easier, what is mysterious about this concept? New uppers, lowers, coil springs, tie rod ends, Bilsteins, and Firestones, not mods.

i would ditch ur cat if u can, (ie local laws). i did that and found my little 2.3 got way better mpgs, plus a ton of horsepower . Google ford ranger 2.3 performance. there is a guy that tried all the home tricks(throttle body spacer, blocking off EGR, and taking out the baffles in the intake, ect) and then went out and checked his mpgs. It is a very helpfull article, i belive he was cranking out high twenties or more.

I get around 20 mpg with a high boy cap. I might get better without it but I like having the cap.
