Default Selling My Ranger

Hi all , i love my 94 ranger mostly due to the great gas mileage it gets because its a 4 cylinder so doesn't use much gas at all , but realizing lately that i need a bigger vehicle , i would prefer to stay in the ford family i have always either had a ford or a mercury all my life and never had problems and were always good vehicles

My biggest thing now is i was thinking more like an explorer or even a extended cab truck possibly , obviously the gas would no were compete with my ranger unless i would get lucky and find a 6 cylinder ford , but is there any year on the explorers or something were the gas consumption wasn't to crazy

Basically want something decent on gas and with it being bigger then a ranger , i was even thinking vehicles other then a ford like a dodge dakota extended cab but i don't know those trucks enough

So any suggestions on whats a good choice to pick , i was already getting down to those 3 choices , f 150 extended cab , explorer , or dakota extended cab or if there is any other suv's with decent gas or if any year it had a 6 cylinder or what , just let me know

Default Re: Selling My Ranger

My friend has a Dodge Dakota, and I wouldn't go there... those are more sporty trucks... not nearly as durable as the rangers. It took me flipping my ranger to make it stop, and I know there are a lot of other guys on here that will tell you the same thing... They just keep going.

I would recommend getting an ex-cab ranger, and throw a toolbox in the bed. That way you have the extra room on the interior, and extra space in the bed to haul stuff that you need locked up, but you can also haul large awkward loads because its not as confined as the exploder.

I personally also have never been a fan of driving anything but a pickup, because I can easily see where my back end is, instead of looking all the way back through the vehicle, I see out the window cause its right behind me... much clearer view.

Just my .02...

Can't go wrong with a 98-2000 (strongest 4.0 engine) or a 2001-2003 (best body style in my opinion)

I also recommend getting the 4.0 V6, or the 2.3 I4. The 3.slow lacks power (especially for a V6) and gets about the same gas mileage as a 4.0. I got 12 with my 4.0, but I know there are guys on here that are getting upwards of 17-20 on their 4.0.

What about a Sport Trac? It would give you a bigger cab and you'll still have a bed. Assuming you can work with a 4' bed...

i actually did think about a sport track , but i hated the fact of having a small bed

Obviously i could do some customizing to make it what i want , to make it a truck and a suv but i didnt want to go through the hassle of that almost , just wanted to get something decent but i still can use it as a truck

Only other thing i was thinking is if i can find a 4 door type truck , almost like a sport track but unsure on if i would have a problem with a small bed

My things are this , i am handy and i like to do things myself and thats why a truck is good in my case but also every year or so i take a 16 hour drive up to spend time with family and i would like to have a comfortable vehicle

I like the explorers as well my father in law had on and one of my friends has one but i just hate the fact that its not a truck , unless i find a pickup truck and get one of those topper things but make it look better then those cheap looking ones

I dont know im thinking more and more i might just get an explorer and whenever i want to haul shit that ill just take the back seats out , unless you guys have any other ideas

How are the sport tracks , i remember when the first came out a long time ago and they looked pretty decent but i never was interested at the time

Sport Tracs are pretty nice. I was actually thinking of getting one before I got my ranger but they aren't bad at all. Sure it has a small bed but you have room for more people.

Maybe a 02-03 Ranger with an extended cab with a small or large bed? Bigger tires and a body lift will make her look bigger as well!
