This, guy a work just blew tranny on his with 130k on it

----------

I would never own a car with a cvt. Complete junk. Every Nissan almost has them. We change them out on a daily basis.

I've got 150k on my sentra with a cvt. No issues yet. It's been a great little car.

Some last forever, some don't. We do more new 13+ Sentra transmissions than any other trans. Second is the new altimas. Worst part about cvt is they aren't rebuild able. Anything inside of them goes wrong, whole tranny needs to be replaced. We had one at work that broke the belt. Only thing wrong was the belt. Needed to replace whole thing.

I loathe CVT transmissions. I don't like the constant RPMs they stay at, along with a belt moving a vehicle. I've had CVT's in four wheelers and such before and all they do is slip.

The most common issue with the Focus/Fiesta DCT's were the early revision clutch packs/seals, sometimes a bad TCM or two, and firmware updates. Most of what people were complaining about was its feel and especially the noise of the servos. Which is partially Ford/Dealer's fault for essentially white lying, and not educating people on the transmission. Here you had a whole ocean of people coming from a full automatic, never seen a manual before, let alone driven or ridden in one. Then add on top the transmission goes through a battery of tests and adjustments when you open the door, and turn the car off, which makes noise. Without that torque converter, it will not ever be as smooth as a full blown hydraulic pressure automatic. Even the high end wet clutch DCTs can have some issues, jitters, and act weird. Seems like globally no one can make a "good" transmission. True automatics seem to be the worst besides Nissan CVT's. Other cvt's ive tried are..... Ok. Theyre just slow, noisy, and as exciting as watching grass grow.

Actually people complain about the shuddering more than noise....

If it's a good trans then why is the clutch #1 on fords back order list with over 28k back ordered. We have 19 on order just at the dealership where I work.

CVTs are the worst thing ever put into a car. I drove an altima with one for awhile and it was just the most boring, soul-less driving experience ever.

One of the cars i tested was a versa S. Thing accelerated like a stoned turtle on valium, and handled like a drunk giraffe. A church sermon is more exciting. Ill go to a stick before a cvt.

As for the DCT in the Fiesta/Focus. It seems fine to me in the 3 focuses, and 4 Fiestas i test drove. Seems like the worst year was 2011, a bad seal design contaminating the clutch. Most of the issues like i said were people expecting a slushie, not knowing what a DCT was. Ford's main issue was when selling the cars was not explaining properly, the DCT. It wasnt a issue with me, because of the Harleys. Which have jerky, noisy transmissions. Even then, one doesnt ever expect the transmission on entering the car or turning it off. The adjustments the transmission does. To a typical especially female driver, coming from a slushie, those noises may sound like a problem.
